Yup, it was $677 with 5 bidders, all 500 plus feedback. More than one bidder was serious about that particular git.

I'm the guy the ended up with the guitar and not feeling too badly about it; if I look at my entire collection I feel I've done pretty well considering I am a pretty aggressive buyer.

What data would be interesting is what the prices on some of these models were in 2008/09, during the crash.

I would be surprised if the well represented instruments in Excellent to Extra Fine condition are selling higher than their counterparts in 06/07. I get the feeling with the Electras, other than their almost "Cult" following are doing better in value against Gibby and Fender products from the 70's and 80's. What continues to make them so attractive (to a guy like me) is not only their history and ingenuity is their quality. I think I have over 30 now and not one fails to meet muster against a similar Gibby or Fender in this economy. I believe that Electras will hold their value and as the economy improves they become a real bang for your buck bargain. A great entry level collector with lots of models to fit almost any investor's purchasing strategy.

I think we are seeing a bit of a bubble in the brand right now as there are several collectors going at it pretty hard. That's got to inflate value. As the same time, however, some pretty comprehensive collections are being created and when you look at these collections I don't think it's a stretch see them appreciating over the years.

I am talking about excellent to mint guitars. The sub par junk category is really a different bird and doesn't effect the high end collections

and... and that they are one of the coolest guitars to have on stage, just can't argue with that

I agree up to a point; but I also think that Electra are a sleeper atm, but that the serious collectors out there are starting to wake up to them and that we'll see them head the way of the other Matsumoku brands... ie through the bloody roof!!! I suppose I'm lucky that my particular poison are the cheap and cheerful Phoenixes!!!

I'm not sure any of the Electra line would be considered a great investment, they may go up in value, but even the grand daddy of all Japanese makes (Ibanez) rarely go for more than a couple grand. I may be wrong (it wouldn't be the first time). As X189 has alluded to on a number of occasions, if they were more expensive than less people would have the opportunity to try them out. They have got to be the single best price vs. performance guitars out there for the past ten or so years. While I would love to see them more appreciated by the masses, I'm not looking forward to prices going up.

Concerning condition, I have no issue whatsoever with worn and played instruments, however I don't buy a guitar to resell later, or to make a profit on when I do, and I don't fault guys who look for pristine examples, I've just never had that kind of scratch personally (or luck apparently). I learned sometime ago that some guitars have no play wear for a reason... sometimes they're dogs, and nobody wanted to play them. The few guitars I've had that were really clean I would always feel nervous about using them, and that's just wrong! These guitars were produced to be heard, don't let them down! (or put them behind glass!!)

I've bought and sold many an Electra, but mostly to gather information, or resurrect them... in fact, most of the time, they've sold for less

I never thought I'd sell it, otherwise I would have kept the original neck (I love bursts)
but all things have a limit... I have lots of hobbies, and over the last year I spent way a lot of money to make this

I have a Subaru STi myself. I have a lot of fun with it on the backroads of Vermont. It is hard to fit a decent sized bass amp in it though.

So saving the day - after contributing to the OT offense, mightily,
I must say. I continue..... So what you think is a fair price for
this here Outlaw?

Its now bid up to $410 and still hasn't made the reserve.

I have truly folded my hand on this one, after many sleepless
nights - a clear symptom of E.A.S. And as well under the
threat of defenestration by my own wife (luckily our highest
windows are only 25 feet from the ground, I can do that....

I'm not sure there is much. It appears to have more dings and scratches to the one
I got (677). It is truly mint. But the real dynamics of what happened is I had put
in a maximum bid and it got bid up toward the end. I don't chase auctions, I
set my price and how it goes is how it goes. At the time I bid on the one I've got
there weren't any others on Ebay or local Craig's List and it was piece I wanted
in the collection. If I could have grabbed this one cheap I would have taken it (under
$350) but I really don't need two of that model. So that's what happened.
