Glad you liked it. :D

The volume difference has to do with the headroom of the amp you are playing through. Less headroom, more distortion and less of a volume difference. More headroom, more volume difference. It is just like any other "booster" type overdrive. It just does it a lot more than the stock version.

I can attest to the "13th Module" Thorny Power Overdrive;

I have been using one of these in each of my MPC's for the last 4 years or so; they sound great and get the job done.

Yeah... if there is still any question in the mind of anyone who owns a stock Power Overdrive module, let this thread put it to rest.

Stock Power Overdrive = Lame.

Thorny Overdrive = Awesome.

What I always tell people is that a stock Power Overdrive is neither.

As in, it's neither Power nor Overdrive.

I take the stock power overdrive module, open it, and modify it. Afterwards it sounds like the stock POD but it gives you much more boost. The boost at "3" or a little more on the modded overdrive is similar to the boost at "10" on the stock. It actually boosts the gain MANY TIMES. The result is something like a good boosting overdrive floor pedal such as the old EH LPB-1 or LPB-2 (or several other varieties). If your amp is pushed to the edge of overdrive this will likely put you way over with a lot more usable distortion. It works best when used that way.

On an extremely clean amp with a LOT of headroom it may just make the signal a WHOLE LOT LOUDER. That is because it doesn't actually add much distortion from the pedal, it adds it by increasing the gain of the input signal into the amp overdriving the preamp and amplifier. The amp creates most of the distortion. But that is way most of us want it. For the vast majority of amps, it creates a significant amount of distortion.

If you are interested, please email me. You will need a functioning Power Overdrive module in the beige plastic style case. If it is the block of epoxy type with the paper label then that type can't be modified. You send it to me with payment, I mod it and send it back. We can discuss pricing and details. It usually takes only a couple of days to do the mod but shipping time varies. You can ask the many people on the list that have it all about it.

Thanks.

I am sorry. I started a new job this week and am in the "drinking from a fire hose" stage. But the good news is, I finally started a new job! :) I sent a PM back to you.
