I bought an X110VW brand new in 1981—set up by none other than Rene Lopes of SLM. It was my first good guitar and I played and practiced scales on this instrument for years. With the help of a friend in the early 1990’s I replaced the neck, added a single coil neck pick up, a trem route for a Kahler Spyder as well as a monkey grip and a paint job that didn’t turn out very well. I bought a Spectrum ST a few months ago on CL and realized that I prefer the small fret size and fret board radius of these guitars.

I found this forum a few years ago after doing a search on Phoenix guitars (and it took a while to remember the brand name as I had given the neck away 20 years ago). I initially thought my guitar was so obscure that I would never find any information on it, but the River City site, Ebay and this forum have given me a lot of information.

Thanks for keeping this information available to the public.

John

Not at the moment. I have to read up on how pics are posted on this forum...

It is pretty simple. You get an account with someone like photobucket download the pictures and copy the URL. There is more detailed info on the forum if you search.

That's the way it works on some other sites, too. I'll try to get pics up in the next few days.

Well I got the pics to post by adding img tags. I told you it's not pretty--lol. The strat tone produced by the Bartollini in the neck position sounds great--must be a perfect match for ash. I plan on finding a better pickup for the bridge position in the near future. Currently I have a Duncan Custom there and it's not a good match for this guitar. I never liked the input jack on this model so that was changed, too.

What's the appropriate pixel size to keep these images within the text boxes? Maybe I can upload these again after I change the pixel size to fit the page.

I think anything over 800 pixels wide will change the box width, but we like detail right? This being a collector site, you have to expect some of us to cringe when we see modded guitars, but the fact that you still have it speaks volumes. This was the fate of many an a Electra, they were after all reasonably priced workhorses that many a player put his 'Brush to Canvas' with, thinking that they would never be collectable. It's understandable, and frankly one of my favorite players is a heavily modded 2238 Tele, but also it is why the blood starts pumping when you see a totally stock one! Thanks, and welcome to the forum, Mike.

I'm glad you guys like the guitar. I thought I'd have to duck as rotten vegetables were thrown my way after posting the pics. I'll never sell it--too many memories, it plays well and it's not worth anything--except to me.

I'm looking for another Electra with a maple neck (like I had) and most likely a two hum set up. I spent hundreds of hours practicing scales on the original neck and became accustomed to the fret size and neck profile. IMHO it has become part of my technique and the necks on these guitars just feel right to me--more so than any other manufacturer. I bought a Westone Spectrum ST which is very similar in many respects. I'll have to post in a separate thread.

No rotten veggies. These guitars are for playing and yours can be played. Id people didn't mod guitars than new ideas wouldn't happen.

I really like the artwork! Very unique and artistic as well. I'm not a huge fan of the monkey grip, but it's your guitar so you do what you like.

Keep a watch on this forum and the Electra guitar you want will pop up, either from a member or someone seeing on on ebay or c-list.
