....and it is a refinish. Instead of black as the listing stated, it turns out to be a deep Navy. HOWEVER, it's such a near flawless refinish that I'm extremely happy with it. I gave it a quick outdoor photo session (link below) and a set-up....and, the action is astounding !!!! The tones are clear as a bell. I'm very, very impressed with the quality of this refin, the attention to detail, and the refinish itself. Someone invested a lot of time in this guitar....mirror finish. The only way to tell externally is in the nut and serial number areas...pay attention to those pics and you'll easily see what I mean. Look at the headstock logo also....it's actually better than my originals.

At the next string change, I'll have a look around inside.

Do me a favor and look at the pics I've posted and tell me what you think of the refinish and the guitar. At webshots...on each picture page in the top right is a "full size" link.

   I like it. That is a pro re-finish and very well done. I like the blend between the original burgandy and the black, Looks great.

That really is a super job. The navy color really seems to work well. Enjoy it!

It certainly looks striking. Did they paint over the binding on the F holes? It looks like a pretty thick application, you can see its depth around the serial numbers. It does look nice, don't get me wrong. If it's only two years old (the paint) we don't know how it'll age, if its over ten years old you're probably good. I've had some thick refins before and when they start to crack (weather) its not pretty, you get these huge striations that look like continental fault lines.

I don't mean to rain on your parade man, it's a great looking axe, and if it plays as nice as you say we're all jealous, but I think you were looking for objective thoughts... repaint or not, its the first one I've 'seen' upclose, nice snag! We know that they used the 'cutout' headstock in 1976 (possibly earlier) so I'd say the first three digits of your serial number are F76 (possibly E76) for a June (or May...) 1976 build date, good stuff.

Thank you fellas....yep, the old mirror check found that the binding is painted over, and there is a small telltale run of burgundy stain inside one of the soundholes.

And that was probably a choice (binding painted)....I can't figger taking the patience, skill, time and trouble to accomodate trim of the logo (because it is the same finish around the logo as is on the rest of the guitar) and being stymied by the f-hole binding taping. As an afterthought on this...I do think that a dark guitar looks much better without the contrast of white f-hole binding.

Pro...you can't rain on my parade about this guitar, and I do want to hear objectivity. Thank you.

Do you all think that this is the actual guitar that you saw for sale a while back? If so, tell me what you remember about it. It would be hard to believe that there are two refins of the Burgundy Pro on the market.

Anyways, the more I study this refinish, the more amazed I am with it. I certainly couldn't do that well on my bestest day.

I'm lookin at the guitar right now here in the studio and it looks as black as my black ones, but outside in natural light....it's definately blue.

SN is E765354...not absolutely sure of the last two but that's what I make of it.

Refin or no, it's so bad-ass it should be hunting down terrorists in Afghanistan. I'd be hard-pressed to take even a modern 335 over that.

This is absolutly the same one that was listed earlier this year on the bay. I don't think it ever sold due to the high asking price then. It is a pro refinish job and is a good one. Keep it rocking.
