When I saw this guitar hanging on the rack at the local used gear store I didn't figure I'd be very impressed. I knew nothing of the brand and figured it to be some cheap LP knockoff.

Am I glad I tried it out - this guitar not only looks great, but has a wonderful neck and great sounding pickups. There is no model number on the sticker on the back of the headstock, just a serial number: 19959. The truss rod cover reads "Custom" so I'm guessing that it's a custom build so no model number.

Here's the pics - any ideas?

Welcome to the Forum, looks to be a 2245 (Sunburst Super Rock), which is a fairly common model, probably made around 1976 or 1977 as it has the wave headstock. There is a entire section of the board dedicated to ID'ing guitars: viewforum.php?f=19 and the vast majority of the advertised models can be found in the index area of the website here:
http://www.rivercityamps.com/electrapag ... _of_models

There is a wealth of information buried in the many posts here. Some of the serial numbers are helpful for dating, unfortunately the foil tag serial numbers are of no help (many topics on S/N dating!) and ballparking the year is usually done by comparing finishes and features. Warning, hanging out here can cause acquisition syndrome! Mike.

thanks for all the great information - I can't believe it's that old! Freakin' AWESOME!

And I will definitely start looking for other Electra's - it's definitely a quality guitar and not like anything I've ever seen. It's one of those guitars that you just never get rid of.

There is some issues with the volume pots - but I have a trusted luthier in town and I'm going to take it to them to fix it up.

AWESOME!

8) Nice guitar and welcome to the forums. Maybe someone else can catch my EGAS from me so I can slow down a bit. I scored another X700 Futura Bass w/OHSC, a nice very early (1976 open book X-340 MPC) that is very interesting. I am cleaning it up now and will be posting pics of it. I think I have found a cure for the EGAS surge I had in my wife as she is now keeping track of my EGAS. I also scored the near mint X950 MPC from JMM and love it as well as a nice X-320MPC. If I could only score the X910 oh well maybe one day. Welcome to the forums and I will have photos soon.
