:look: :look: 8) This is one I recently scored. It has play wear on back of neck and usual playwear, nicks etc but this is understandable considering how well it plays. The pups have been changed and I hope to find original pups to put back in. The tuners have been replaced with Grovers which are great and I think they are keepers. I found this one interesting in that is the only open book headstock MPC I have and that it also has a rather unusual MPC cover configuration and I believe the older style MPC wires. The neck is smaller and thinner than My X330 and X350 models but I like the feel. It also does not have the Brass sustain block that I could see and the body is chambered with a laminated top as discussed in other posts from Mr Tom Presley. Overall I am well pleased and it is a keeper for certain. It also has the knuckle busting metal knob position markers and the gold knobs and gold bridge and tailpiece. It is a very interesting example of early MPC I think and I do certainly like the improvements (hinges on later MPC module covers) as this is an awkard configuration when switching modules and the thumbscrews are uncomfortable when playing. take a look and see what you think.

There's a set of pickups on eBay currently, auctions end in two days, just in case you're interested. I've never seen a MPC compartment like that, but with the shielding and foam, it looks original. I agree that there are some very unusual features on this one, and could be a super early example. Look on the battery pull cloth and see if there is a date on it (Redeye has one with a very clear date, I think this may be a new way of dating these MPC's, of my three MPCs only one is readable though...). Another cool score, I can't wait until you start parting with some of these man!

No dates found on this tag. Only the plain old white cloth, no markings at all. With the open book headstock and neck style as well as the unusual type MPC bay connectors and covers as well as the early solid type phaser module I am betting early 1976-1977 on this one. Maybe Tom can shed some light on this one if he has time. i am very curious to know as I have never seen this configuration before. The Bill lawrence and Dimarzio pups sound great but I think it will look better with the gold covered neck and open top original pups to match the faded gold hardware. My Outlaw has the tag and is dated july 1978 and my X320 is dated 1977 and has the wave headstock.  Hope we can find the answer somewhere.

This is a virtual duplicate of the X340 I bought recently, including the rear cover, open-book headstock, et al.

The wood on mine is much darker, however.

I hope yours plays as well as mine does!

This one sounds a little different due to the Lawrence and dimarzio pups but still has a very balanced and powerfull sound with the mix of the two pups. Lawrence has nice clean bright tones while the dimarzio really growls well at higher volumes. I want to replace the stock pups in this one but each day play it these pickups grow on me a little more as they sound somewhat different than my other MPC models and it is nice to have that option now and again. What a delima to decide as I am a lover of the original electra pickups as well.

That rear cover is crazy - obviously an earlier build before the hinges....

That is a really cool axe mortarman, enjoy her!

Nice piece of grain...I see the X340 at a Guitar Center with open book headstock is still available. I wonder what rear panel style it has:

http://used.guitarcenter.com/usedgear/index.cfm

Also, does the phaser have a small black slider switch on it? My first MPC, an early X310 had a grey phaser like that with the switch, but it had a wave headstock. I know they are easily removeable, but were some MPCs released without the metal knob pointers? I have noticed some MPCs pictured with the adjusting screws on the bridge facing the tail piece, while mine are facing the rear pickup like yours here. Which way is correct, or does it matter? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to gain some knowledge from the knowledgeable here.

Thanks for the photos, they will come in handy when my X340 arrives maybe today or tomorrow...nice for wiring comparisons.

The MPC phaser does have the(color)switch which changes the sound somewhat. I have seen the bridges withscrews both ways also so I do not know the significance of the direction other than ease of access maybe. It is a great player and I am enjoying it very much.

I've seen the bridge in both ways on lots of different guitars and manufactures. I always though the adjustment screws should face the pickup, but who knows which is the correct orientation? Mike.

The screws on the bridge differ from model to model of guitar and manufacturer, including some manufacturers doing them both ways on the same model (Gibson being one and echoing what pro said). I don't know enough of Electra's history to say which way is "correct". Maybe someone with more knowledge of Electra history will weigh in.

The original Gibs*n bridge had the screws in the back. As that makes it much esier to adjust the intonation, that is how I like them.
