Someone should grab some shots to post here, including pictures of the original. Not sure if the auction will be up long because of the profanity, as Hetfield has some colorful things carved into the original. Still a very noteworthy effort and like it or not an interesting chapter in the Electra story. Over the top, off the charts, and worth the read, Mike.

P.S. I wonder if the seller has the original Truss Rod Cover? Man I need one of those! (Anyone up for a reproduction?)

That is nice but the price is not. I would rather have gotten the original one he started with but this is a unique one indeed. $5000 is way out of line for a copy of the original I think.

Expensive yes, out of line, perhaps... but check out these examples. First up, the Jeff Beck Esquire Tribute at $8000, not certain of total production:

Then there's the Gary Moore '59 Tribute at $10,500, 100 examples made:

Next we have the Jimmy Page Artist Proof at $18,500, one of Eleven Made:

Lastly the Eric Clapton Blackie Tribute, one of 275, a Bargain at $30,000 (compared to the $959k garnered at auction for the original):

So, there actually is a market out there for extremely expensive recreations... and the Hetfield is One of a Kind, not part of a production run. The big differences here are 1) It's not made by a manufacturer 'Custom Shop' 2) No fancy printed up Case Candy 3) The Original Guitar was not on hand to be inspected and measured and 4)The Original Guitarist isn't getting a Kick-Back on each sale.

It's not like I'm a big fan of JH or Metalica, and frankly I wonder about the guys who pay this kind of money for a Custom Shop Relic, but in the grand scheme of things, it's conceivable that this could sell to the right fanatic. Just saying.

The Hetfield Painted Flying Wedge is arguably the most famous Electra out there, with the Chris Squire Outlaw Bass being the possible contender. I've always like beat up guitars, and while I know you guys drool over the minty offerings out there, the best guitars I've ever played have been worn in from decades of use. Enjoy, Mike.

8) I enjoy a well played and broken in guitar as well. as it usually means that it plays well and has great sound to have been played so much. So far as the relic look goes to each his own. I would not care to pay extra to have an already nice or new guitar beaten up to add a worn in look. I would prefer to savour each and every note as I wear it in and give it my own mojo. This individual did a great job of reproducing the original guitar no doubt. I just do not see spending that kind of cash. If I am going to lay out that much I might as well get a Nice PRS or something I enjoy. I agree that if the right fanatic or collector comes along it will bring that price or more. I am just not that collector. I am simple minded I guess as I would rather have many nice playing guitars over just one great looking guitar. So much for my rants on this one. It will be interesting to see what this one does. Should have a hefty profit on this one. How much are the original or parts Electra V's going for again at top dollar? Maybe $500 in minty shape. A solid white paint job and electronics etc, maybe $400 so I guess the rest is for the labor to make it road worn and the talent to do so. Man I wish I had that kind of talent and profot margin. Have a Great Electra day my friends.

Don't those EMGs use batteries? I guess you have to remove the pickguard to change them? I could be wrong....

I do know for sure the the original Wedge Hetfield used back then had a Duncan Invader not EMG's. I have also read an interview with Hetfield where he said ESP recreated the White Vee Guitar for him recently. The original is very beat up and not tour worthy. It was like a one-off thanks for him being an endorsee.

The Kill em All and Ride the Lightning albums do have a pretty cool rhythm guitar sound and that is most likely the Wedge. Neat.

Maybe Hetfield will buy it and just start over again...
