I foolishly removed the nut from my 2259 project before measuring and in the process pretty much demolished it. I glued it back together but I think I'm missing something. The dimensions for height and width are standardish 5/16 and 1/4, but I'm coming up with odd numbers for length and string spacing. I get 1-39/64 length and e to e of 1-19/64. I'm thinking neither of these are correct. The length is close enough to 1-5/8 so I think that should be it but the string spacing has me confused.

Anyone know what the spacing and length should be? Even more important, anyone know where I can get the right size nut.
Thanks

I've got one with a wave headstock like yours coming, hopefully before the weekend, I'll get my caliper out and tell you what it says if you can wait that long.

It's the one that languished on eBay for two months out of Illinois, and kept coming down in price. The pictures were terrible and I think they scared most bidders away, the things in the background were in focus and the guitar was out of focus. If it is half as nice as the seller said, I'll be happy.

How complete is the project you got? Any missing electronics? Wasn't there something up with the tuners? We'll want to see some before and after pictures man! Cheers, Mike.

That would be perfect Mike. I bought a Vulcan off him a year or so ago and it was decent - Arthur owns that now. His CD is pretty good too.

So far all I've done is remove hardware. I need to de-solder the pickups and then I can start to strip the finish. The electronics are all intact. The hole through the cavity for the 3 way switch is pretty chewed up and a fair amount of wood lost there. I think I'll epoxy that area a bit. The rhythm/treble ring will cover that up. The guitar came with like 4tuners for treble side and 2 bass side - real strange so I bought a set of Gotoh single ring keystones that don't fit. The press in bushings that came with the Gotoh's are 8.75 mm and the bushings I took out are just under 8mm. I have not located conversion bushings yet and might just try and find another set of keystone double rings which would be more accurate for the guitar anyway. I'll get a rehab thread going and post some pics.

The battery in my caliper is dead... so here is a photo, I hope it helps:

Here's a quick shot of the control cavity for reference:

Best of luck Jead, can't wait to see the finished product!

Thanks Mike - Here's the bone nut I bought and the one I glued back.
The one i bought was said to be specifically for SG and LP's 1-11/16 x 5/16 x 1/4. Clearly it's too big and the string spacing is way off. I think I'm in trouble on this. Mike - did you get your 2259 from TMac? I'm guessing yes since there's pictures. What's the word? Happy with it?

Well, there's the difference between an American and Japanese neck in a nutshell... and one of the reasons guys with small hands (like me) really like 'em. The neck on the 2259 and my 2238 tele are both under 1 5/8ths inch wide at the nut, which I'm getting really comfy with. You can see that the original nut is pretty tall and the string grooves are cut fairly deep too.

I think your two options are to either try to shape one yourself (maybe buy a blank?) or have your guitar tech whip one up. My guy made and installed a nut for like $20, but he's a real kook and never charges enough.

Yeah, this is tmac's SG, and I swear if he would have taken better photos, he would have got a lot more for it, and I wouldn't have been able to snag it. I'm super stoked by it's condition, although the bigsby never comes back to the same spot and the pickups are a bit 'colder' than the MMK's I'm used to. It's my first SG... I like it a lot.

tmac has a ton of westones. I think he may have sold off all the Electra's now.
