That's a beaut. I like the tiny dots on the 'Bird' era guitars. Are those the correct knobs? The cover on the back is darn convenient for servicing, although I always wondered if there was a sonic tradeoff. I know my tin ears wouldn't be able to notice!

Do either of yours have push pulls built into the tone pots? I don't know where I got it in my head, but I thought the Custom Pros had the same wiring as the Endorsers, however I can't find any posts to confirm that now. Good one, Mike.

Hey Mike...the 420VS has push/pulls but the 420 does not.

I have no idea about the original knobs...there just aren't enough of these around for reference. I'm thinking black speed knobs were probably original, but I just don't know.

Anyone have an idea about the pickguard.....was it clear for these?

After talking to the previous owner I tend to think that those are the original control knobs and I like them. I do not think this VS had a pickguard installed. I have never seen any photos of one with a pickguard. Does it show any holes where a pickguard may have been mounted?

Yes Arthur....there are pickguard mounting holes in this one. And an outline made by polishing cloth of the pickguard shape (same shape as on the 420). Hard to see unless you hold it just right to the light.

So there was a pickguard on there for some amount of time.

And thanks for all the compliments guys....it is a doozie.

I asked the fellow I bought this one from about the other one he has. He just won't part with that one. Matter fact, he said that a thousand bucks won't even touch it.

Strange...these are so rare, and one guy owned two of them.

Hey Sandspur.....I understand your curiosity about what one of these rare guitars might cost, but that there is gonna be a private matter with me. It hurt a bit....I'll say that.
