Given the amount of restoration work going on in here at the moment, I thought I'd give y'all a look at my wee project.... not Electra, but it is a Matt... :)

Image

... this poor old thing has been snapped in two!

Image

.. but everything's there... even the wang bar!

Image

.. underway... gluing in a cavity shaped piece of strengthening 3 ply...

Image

... the body back together again!

Image

..and this is as far as I've got. I'm waiting on the veneer for the front and am about to go and get some green stain; slimeburst - like Arthurs U60 - is what I'm going to have a crack at!!

The Urchin... I keep expecting it to slither away somehow. You should wax those pickups while they're out, unless you play totally clean and typically quieter than a vacuum cleaner (blasphemy!!). What kind of top veneer are you getting? TIger Stripe? Quilt? It looks real good, especially considering what you started with. Mike.

P.S. Ozark, stop making fun of his pics, or he'll never post any more! Although, those are snazzy looking sandals...

Oh check out some of his posts on the Uncle Mat site. I think we get other views of his sandals there.

Thank you fellas - well, thank you Arthur; the rest of you are very mature ....  Anyway, you can indeed find many more pictures of my toes encased in sandals on the intraweb, if you know where to look....

Mike, I'm getting a nice piece of stripy stuff from a good bloke on the Westone forumswho is a luthier and is being kind enough to hold my hand through this ordeal; I'm hoping to install it in one piece, rather than bookmatch it, but we'll see what happens; it's not too important how it goes on, to be honest. I am, though going to stain the entire thing green, and then do the burst around the edge in a very dark green or black; haven't decided yet.

I haven't even thought about the electronics yet; yes, the pup's will be potted though I've never, ever had any trouble with the MMK45s to date; my Westones and Vantages so equipped are quiet little devils, even when played slightly louder than a Hoover! :D

Nice repair so far! Keep up the great work. It's always really nice to see another save.

Yep; apart from the body being in two pieces, this is utterly complete - MMK45s, so all good there!

I'm thinking you don't play through a tortured Mesa Boogie Lead channel then? I know I should grow up and play clean, but that tone is burned into my psyche! Be sure to show us how it turns out now, Mike.

... uhhh... no. No I don't. The heaviest I ever get (got?) is the sort of Deep Purpl-ey, Van Halen -y type of crunch.... and my very old Holden Reverb 100 combo does that OK, thank you very much!!

.... growing up's over-rated; you're a long time dead!! Rock on!!

Veneer has arrived....

Image

... I like it. A lot.

Arthur, would you measure the distance from the thinnest part of the waist to the veneer join on yours, please, and another datum mark for me. I know I could just freehand it, but I'll try to stay close to the Uncles specs!!

No green stain on Jersey... ho-hum; it's onto the interwebs we go; anyone had any experience with the stains that the likes of Reranch and Stewmac sell??
