Some of you may have seen this recent offering, it was listed a couple times and I made an offer that the seller finally went for. A totally original 2248 Rock-n-Soul Tele in a newer tweed case:
Image

Here it is with the pickguard off showing the squared routes. You can see that the color hasn't faded that much, note the chrome covered Bridge pickup, flat top knobs and output jack on the control cover.

Here's a closeup of the coke-bottle bridge and primitive saddles:

Headstock with big tuner buttons and 'Leaf' truss rod cover:

Original simple covered tuners. One of the first 50 made, serial number 0049:

These early Tele's had Pearl Markers on the fretboard that only go to the 17th fret, also note the single marker on the top of the neck at the 12th fret. You can also see the four layer w/b/w/b pickguard in this shot:

These 2248 and 2238 models have a 24.5" scale like a Gibson, I'm not sure if the scale changed later or if other Tele models had the longer scale like a Fender. I personally really like the shorter scale and love the way these necks play. This one has a couple chips around the edge of the body, some buckle art on the back and some finish cracks at the seams of this 'butcher-block' body, but overall is a very respectable example for being almost 40 years old. One last parting shot of this nice survivor, Cheers, Mike.

Sweet! Nice One. Your Buck Owens will have a playmate.

8) Very nice tele. Glad someone here scored it. It is indeed a nice original early example. I fought off my egas on this one but it was not easy. Congrats on the new addition to a fine collection.

Nice. How does it play, other than the neck?

Liking that, Mike - I have a weakness for butterscotch Telecasters, and this is just the duck's nuts!

The blonde weighs a little less than the 'Buck Owens' 2238 I have, neck feels slightly larger to me, and I typically play with the Bridge Cover off for more control over muting and string pickin'. The frets could use a dressing eventually, but not too bad. The electronics are kind of low-end, but I'm not going to mod something as original and clean as this one... It probably wont end up on a recording or at a gig, but he's been on bedroom practice duty ever since his arrival, I like it! Mike.

Very nice guitar! I may look into one of these someday.

I seen someone said you have a buck too?
I used to have a buck owens tele. Red white and blue matalic
flake with rosewood fretboard. Was a nice guitar.

I bought a crudely painted 2238 about two years ago for a song, ended up putting a stacked humbucker in the Bridge position, and it already had a banging Gibson humbucker in the Neck position, also put the compensated Brass saddles and a new pickup switch in. My total investiment was about $150, here is the result:

I don't normally like modding stuff, but this one's Electronics were a mess, and well, just look at him! Has a super thin neck, I've heard some people say they feel 'cramped' when playing them, but I really like this one, 'Buck' plays like a boss!

Very cool score indeed. Would that be considered a Honey Blonde finish ?

In the catalog it's called 'Ivory White' and the one in the photo looks off White, however this is a very early one, and you can see in the photo with the pickguard off that it hasn't faded that much. All the ones I've seen were this yellow, or close to it.

(I love those dudes Rockin' out on the Power Turbine in the back of the picture! Hardhats required)

If you ever sell that, please put me at the top of your buyer list. :D

Has a 2270C ever popped up?
