he started this out there at 400 some months back... at the same time another one started at 595...

the one that started at 595 just finally sold for 395...

the last one of these I had in my posession had the edges blacked in with black marker and a batman logo sticker on it :)

32" scale, and lots 'o tone from that pickup....

not sure what I want to do with this one as far as frets...

... and custom carved string notations on the headstock and carved fret notes on the fretboard ..............

But an unusual axe - and probably rare - just the same.

Fretboard has been sanded. All notations went away nicely. The black stain is gone from the fretboard. Thinking i might leave it natural rosewood. Bad news.fret slots 1-4 or so were glu filled badly. Need to see if my fret saw will cut thru it okay...

woohoo! saw cut through the glue nicely! all prepped for frets now... just have to order some... :)

glue filled the note engravings on the edge of the headstock. need to sand and paint/clear it.

one of the tuners is totally shot. the others are fairly worn. will probably get a new set, but it's a 3+1 set-up, so I may need to get 2 sets, unless I can rebuild the (1 - G) and just use 3 new for the others. luckily the Gotoh ones are a direct fit...

okay, frets installed, custom note engravings along edge of fretboard are gone... need to do a bit more prep work, before putting some clear coat on, and then oiling the fretboard...

a wee bit of progress on this... I finally got around to taping and repainting the headstock edge that had the notes engraved. it turned out nicely... now the fretboard is taped off so I can clear the entire neck, and then get to reassembly....

okay. pics finally.... not really doing anything with the body, other than hitting the electricals with deoxit.

etched notes on headstock: filled and repainted. entire neck re-cleared.
etched notes on fretboard edge: sanded out
carved noted in fretboard: sanded. these were really deep. some remnants remain, but way better now...
frets: fret slots recut and new jumbo frets installed.
tuning pegs: replaced.

Very nice. Better than I would have thought possible. Does it need the string retainer or is that a later mod?

yeah, I have the string retainer. I need to clean it up, along with the neck plate, and screws for both and repaint them before bass reassembly...

it's definitely not a full refinish/refurb :) where the screws for the tuning pegs go in, the finish has an air pocket underneath where is started to seperate long before I got it.

my goal with this one was to make it a player again, that looked acceptible. before I oiled the fretboard up, you couldn't see the engraving at all, but I already had the frets in by that time, so no going back...

the fret job is okay. once I get it back together and tuned up, I'll see how I feel about the frets...

thanks all!

my wife keeps asking me... "your projects are getting fewer, right?" :)
