Yeah im sure the sounds like a good tube amp is just hype! There's many tube amps that dont sound good. I have a hard time believing a 30 year old solid state will. Although my freind has a 1979 carvin sc1000 that sounds rather close Its a bass amp and probably 100-150 clean watts.

I played through a few of the early "crate style" Crates bass amps and they were pretty good. Then again, my favorite bass amp is solid state. I don't think this is that far out of line.

You have to really like tube bass sound, you pretty much always have a little distortion. Ive had a SVTII and still have two fender bassman 135's and love them but they only work well with the right speakers and are great in the studio but will run out of power with a really loud live setting.
