Most of you know I bought the X910 and first serial number X270 powered eq from one of our short term visitors,didn't really want both-but was presented as an all or nothing deal,not spoken but implied. Seller was never rude or trying to run prices up,but as with every other person I've approached about buying an X910,seemed to lean heavily towards the eccentric side-not sure why but seems to be the case.
After the deal was done(day or two between replies,etc.),tried to reiterate how important packing was with this model -the seller assured me he knew exactly how to pack and not to worry
When I received the package I was shocked-both guitars in their cases in the same shipping box,no packing at all around the cases. I opened the X910 case thinking I would see wood splinters and a newly floating headstock-only padding in the case was three old t-shirts by the headstock and a metal bar 18x1x1/4" thick taped to the back of the headstock down to the neck-I have no idea how this survived the shipping,the bar was actually probably adding to the stress at the worst possible point
No fractures,cracks,nada-whew! Cleaned entire guitar with Naptha,all manner of nastiness stuck to and smeared on it The bridge and tailpiece were trashed,mismatched screws in pickguard,corroded pickup screws. Replaced bridge and stop piece with a Tone Pros metric locking bridge and locking stop piece,replaced all corroded and mismatched screws with stainless. Here's some pics....



One stud was so bad I had to remove pickup to spin bridge out still attached to stud..

Great guitar, that was a particularly gnarly bridge wasn't it? Looks great now, bet it plays even better too.

That has to be one of the finest ones of these I have ever seen (even with the grizzly bear claw mark on the back). Congrats.

Nice, Joe.....my palms sweat terribly when I play and resting on the bridge is where my right one likes to stay...so, I've corroded the heck out of a few of my old guitars there as well.

Really,really like how it sounds-something about that explorer shape and mass has a huge effect on sound,massive sustain and a "thickness" to the sound. Plays great,but my one gripe about most Electras is the narrowness at the nut end of the fretboard-a little cramped for bigger hands.....

Hey, I think it is one of the "coolest" shapes out there. I never played a 910 that I recall, you are very fortunate to have one and to have such a nice one. Congrats again. The gibson explorers I had were not as small at the nut as I recall, but I did notice the shape makes the neck sort of shift a little away from you - where it hangs on the body. I guess I am saying with that large body, you wind up having to reach for the first fret/nut a little bit. It is a different feel, so it takes a little bit to get used to for some folks. My gibsons weren't bad at all, but I didn't keep them. That 910 is a keeper.
