wheres the pics and the verdict?

Sorry. I got very distracted playing it all evening. Uh, speechless over this instrument...pics coming up...

Here's some cool photos of my new X710 Outlaw. I'll upload unpack photos and more headstock photos tomorrow. I wore myself out playing all evening! She is a fantastic player and sounds excellent as well. I'm super impressed with this guitar! The pickups are fairly hot and have a lot of mids. It plays like a dream...smooth and quick but doesn't mind aggressive picking or anything. I'm amazed at this instrument and I don't have any modules at all in it. It came in a wooden crate/case thing and in a gig bag. I've got more photos but I need to get them off my phone.

It's very cool! I am preparing some better photos of the headstock repair to upload today. Just want to say a few things about my X710 so far...

This Outlaw had the headstock break repaired and there is a dent between the MPC knobs which are also a bit loose. It no longer has the brass nut but the replacement seems to be bone or tusq type material and was cut correctly and professionally. I think the bridge could be a replacement also. It looks too clean and has none of the pitting seen on the tailpiece.

It's really nicer than I expected from the eBay photos. The damage between the MPC knobs looked worse than it was but maybe I can push the wood back up a little from underneath and glue it? Don't know that I'll even bother with anything like that though. It's really fine as it is. It plays like a dream with super low action. All I did was restring with my preferred strings(Ernie Ball). I think the low E is a little off intonation wise but mostly, it's set up well enough as is. I work at a music store part time so I'll tweak the intonation at the store on Saturday during my shift. Frets have good life and electronics all work as expected with no scratchiness or intermittency issues. The tone is FAT but also pretty. It sounds tough in a good way. I like position 3 and 4 the most. 3 is FAT and 4 is still fat but with that midrange out of phase sound. I have no MPC modules but everything is there and the seller had tested it and said it's good.

OK, it played a little bit odd for me at first. Just until I got used to it. The fingerboard is flatter than a Gibson and slightly wider. It's super comfortable and upper fret access is great! It's a very unusual guitar and I guess I can see why it's love/hate for these. I love mine! I don't mind the battle scars and repair. I'll take great care of it but I am going to play it. Probably a lot. Obviously previous owners enjoyed it enough to have the repair work done. Now I need to go read up on the 5 way switch again. I've forgotten how that works, I just played with the sounds.

Played for just a few minutes this morning while the house was empty. Cranking up and I'm not hearing any high pitched squeal or anything. The Aria Pro II I have has a tendency to squeal. Pickups need wax potting in that guitar but the Outlaw does not seem to exhibit this issue or at least not the extent I was expecting. I was playing high gain metal riffs this morning with no issue. Of course live I suppose it might get louder but I also don't face my amp a lot when I play. My live rig is a Fender Pro Jr. on an ABY switch with a ZT Club 12. Using a Hardwire Metal Distortion this morning with just the Fender. Sounds good. Has more midrange than my Gibson SG or Firebird. May need to re-EQ the pedal for the Outlaw as it has crazy thick, loud lower mids. Just growls, which I love...

The loss of the original brass nut worried me when I bought it, but it seems to have plenty of sustain so I don't see a problem and just got a better deal due to the repair work. In fact, having the new nut cut correctly for the aging frets probably helps the setup rather than hurts but who knows.

Welcome to the Outlaw club. Very nice score you got there and the repair looks solid. Glad you like it and yes the more you play it the more you like it. A great go to guitar and a dream to play once you get used to it.

Glad I'm not strange for being over the moon about this guitar! It plays and sounds so good! One of the best players I've ever owned and I've owned many many vintage and modern guitars in my 29 years of playing.

I've used the Outlaw in the studio a lot this weekend and it sounds and plays great! Once we get this project finished, I'll post link to the tracks I used the Outlaw on.
