Nice! Although they mention the frog nose as enticing, nothing really enticing about the frog nose. It was meant to be a preamp for some headphones so not nearly the coolest one of the bunch. But the name was probably a take off of the pignose portable amp from that time frame. Neat idea though and ahead of its time, but so very basic. Cool name though, it conjures the imagination.

I love to see these articles. Shows you people still notice what Electra did back then, and I can say I bought one and still have it.
I never new about the frog nose for the head phones. I saw the picture in the book I got with the MPC (The guy on the St. Louise highway) and just plugged in my head phones with the switch on. It was mono but it worked on an Octave and/or a Phase shifter with the battery pushing the head phones. It worked for me cause my dad worked nights and slept during the day. Its still a cool set up I think. Havent used it like that in a long time, cant remember when the last time was I saw a set of head phones with a 1/4" jack around this house.
So did the frog nose work in stereo or was it mono also?

It is mono - would require an adapter. It is just a small amplifier that is enough to drive a headphone, and at that time MONO. I wonder if it came with an adapter or anything. I never had one in the box so I never saw what it came with. I don't know if it was enough to drive a small speaker or not - never tried it actually. Of if I did, it was un-eventful so I suppose I forgot about it. I'd have to dig mine up to test it sometime.

The output jack on the MPC guitar is a stereo jack but that is misleading. It is only stereo so that it can use the mono male guitar cable to connect and "switch" the two connectors in the output stereo female jack of the MPC - connecting the negative battery terminal to the ground for the guitar. So it switches the battery circuit on when you put a mono mail phone plug (guitar cable) in the guitars output jack. Kinda slick. Saves from having to turn it on and off. This is just like most floor effects do as well.

But you DO HAVE TO REMEMBER to UNPLUG your guitar when you don't use it or your battery will stay connected and make it go dead resulting in a new battery every time you use it. That gets expensive. Man, I have replaced a lot of batteries because I forgot to unplug the guitar or my old Ibanez tube screamer pedal!

Yes, for many years I didnt know about the battery and the jack so I went thru a lot of 9 volts till I was complaining about it once when we were jamming and one of the guys said something about you might have to unplug the guitar when not using it (he was a walking radio shack catalog ). That worked. I used to leave it all set up when I was a teen, back when your room was off limits to everyone.
