Hey Guys, I need some help. Can anyone identify the maker of this guitar? I bought it new winter 1983/84 from the Sear's Christmas catalog. The body is plywood. Made in Taiwan. No way to switch between the 2 pickups.














This sticker is the only markings on the guitar.



The version sold by Sears in 1986. It is in the right, back... letter "G". This version has a different head.

This has been a great guitar! I never learned to play but did keep it in good condition. It has been the starter instrument for 4 of my kids. It is showing some cosmetic wear but seems tough enough for several more kids to learn with.

Maybe a version from Teisco? and that would be a guess -

Quite possible. I have found several models that are similar, but not exact. But I think all the ones I have found were made in Japan.

I'm not familiar with any of the Taiwanese manufacturers, sorry, but we've seen that style neck construction before. If you look closely, that's not wood grain, its like forty pieces of wood laminated together! Probably pretty heavy, and all but indestructible! Congrats for holding on to it so long, and thanks for posting the cool catalog photo.

Thanks for pointing out the neck. I never took a close enough look to see it is laminated. It certainly has proven to be quite tough. It traveled across Europe and the US for several years and is still straight without any adjustments to the rod. It has survived being the introductory instrument for 3 of my kids. Only 7 more to go!

I did find your mention of the neck construction in your Electrafest 2012 video at the 5 min mark. Thanks again for all those videos you posted!!

I had a Teisco Del Ray around 1970; it was very heavy - and quite unplayable -

I have seen some very cool looking Teisco guitars while trying to research the maker of my guitar. Teisco made some models that were very similar to mine. What made your guitar so bad?

It was bad because I didn't know any good guitar luthiers at the time - who probably could have made the proper adjustments to make it a player - so I sold it - what did I know?

It was a Strat like copy - I had even had it repainted at a body shop - bright red - they did a great job on the body; I put it back together and it was a beauty - just couldn't fret it in the upper register.

I wonder what it would be worth now -

A fortune.... if you found the right buyer. Look hard enough and you will find a collector of most anything. Heck, I wanted a Dynasty since I bought this Sears guitar. I finally got one and probably paid way more then it was worth.
