Hey everybody! I just purchased my first Electra instrument a week ago and it just came in the mail yesterday. From what I've been able to gather, it's a 1984 Electra Westone X650JB with a fretless neck on it. Got it in its original case for $200 from a guy who told me that the thing hadn't been played in ten years. My reason for buying it was because I wanted another fretless bass and I just love the look of it so very much. It plays very nicely aside from the neck relief being a little wonky, and the only defects on the bass are a few corroded bridge saddles, a defective pickup selector switch, and a few chips in the finish here and there. But for a 33 year old instrument, I'd say it's in very good shape. Here are a few pictures of it. If you want a picture at a certain angle or of a specific part of the bass, just tell me.

I have a few questions about this bass however, and as soon as I found this forum I knew somebody here had to know something about iy. First of all, how common are fretless X650JBs? Most of the pictures I've been able to find online are of fretted ones. Was the X695JB the only model to come with both necks, or did this one in question come with both too? Also, does anyone else here own one of these? If so, have you modified or repaired the electronics in any way? As I mentioned before, my pickup selector switch doesn't want to click into the up or down position and it just stays in the middle. I was also curious as to how one would drop in a new j pickup at the bridge, as the cutout for the stock bridge pup seems to have more rounded edges than most other j styles. Would you need to cut the edges a little bit to widen them?

Super stoked I found this forum, can't wait to talk to all you guys.

As far as we know, I believe that the X695 was the only model to come with a fretless neck. It may have been possible to special order one this way but it most likely lost the other neck somehow. Is your case made for 2 necks or one? I have bid on a few of the X695's but have not won those auctions. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forums and congrats on a great score. So far as I understand this model was the only 2 neck(fret/no frets)model offered by Electra. The Westone brand that these developed into did offer I believe 2 different versions with the same 2 neck configuration.
