I ended up using acetone to clean the paint off the pickguard as well, then used 0000 steel wool to give it a flat finish, and scraped the edges to brighten up the white.

I combined the 2 bridge/tailpieces I have into 1 good one, but it still needs some purple taken off it, as well as the tuning machines need "de-painted"

I finally put it into a original outlaw bass case I picked up for it, and it's a very tight fit. were all the mpc cases that tight of a fit?

I know this is old news by now, but I have been away a while.

You did a really good job getting that stuff off. You can continue and probably make it shiny again by using 2000 wet/dry sand paper. It looks good.

I just worked on my first bass. I have done a zillion guitars. It was just like yours. A friend bought it last week or two on ebay. It showed up not working with a wiring mistake that I fixed. Also a ground wire was off on a pickup at the 5-way rotary switch. It sounded really good afterwards. He gigged with it that night! Not bad - trial by fire! He said he didn't know why they were not more popular than they were because they are excellent bases. I agree.

How is your bass progressing?

Also, that fret board looks like of light. You need to use some guitar honey or fret board oil on it. I usually scrap the fret board with a razor first to remove the gunk on an old guitar if it is grimy. Be careful not to cut yourself if you do. Then the oil will soak into the board and not the gunk on it. It might look dark again.

actually, after getting that one in good playing condition, I happened uppon a twin, with a good finish on body and fretboard, and also a nice case, with 2 modules. got it and sold the one I had beenworking on....

too many other projects going on to really restore the old one, but it went to another mpc bass guy who had just had a couple of them stolen, then smashed on some rocks!!!!

I sold my Longnecker too, so now I just have the "newer X620, and my little homebrew pocket bass.....
