Hi,

The Vintage 910 is the closest resemblance to my guitar but no pickguard, looks like a maple neck, single dual coil pickup, head is diffrerent but similar. The only ID on the guitar is the word Electra in gold, different height letters on the head. My bridge is single piece. Probably a cheap one but plays nice. I got it for $1 today at a garage sale. Can you believe? The body and front of head is black. I haven't had time to upload a photo.
Yes, it's a Gibson Explorer copy, with the head pegs on one side, but the shape of head is different.
Also on bottom front of body ther is Japanese writing in grey(a sticker was covering it)

Thanks, John in Calif.

What type font is the word Electra? How large is the body? Does it have a chamber for MPC modules in the back?

There is another early Electra Explorer with the early style name like the one on this tele; I'll try to get pictures of it later tonight for comparison:

Wow that was fast!
OK-You really have it layed out. The script on the head is exactly as the one on the bottom except the words are in gold.
I haven't seen any headstocks the exactly the same(but very close) as it yet. The dots on my neck are dark brown. The bridge, pickup and knob location is very close to the one you have just above the one at the bottom if not exact. The area that the bridge takes is the same, but I'm not sure that it is exactly the same bridge. The screw for the strap is in back(on piece that joins with neck) and not on side and the body shape where you have the screw is straighter on mine with no curve into the neck. The rest of body looks same. Also I realized there is Japanese writing(painted in grey) on the lower front of body( there was a sticker on it). My dual coil pickkup is all black. and the 2 knobs have a chrome plate about 1 inch by 6 below them. I opened up the back and there was no place for modules as far as I could see. Just the springs .

John

Ok, finally got the pictures up on mystery guitar:

Be sure to use Explorer browser, doesn't display in Firefox.
Underneath the sticker is the grey Japanese "writing".

Note: "Slide Show" doesn't seem to work, but the pics will show individually.

Thanks, John

Looks very much like my early Electra Explorer. These are older than any of the Electra catalogs we have (pre-72), so not much is known about them. There are some differences from mine, like the metal cover under the knobs. I'll hope to get pics up soon for comparison.

Cool. It seems like a decent guitar. Its intonation is perfect etc.

Thanks for your help, John

Looks cool. I'll see if I can get an opinion on the date.

Works in FireFox 1.0.3 (with Sun Java Runtime v1.4.2_05).

I'd love to know how early these were made, I guess the first Electra was the lucite one, yes?

I've seen an Electra Flying Vee with the same headstock and details. I always wondered if they were made by the same source that made, say, the early Electra teles and Apollos. Was it Matsumoku? (Feels like no) If not, who?

Early Electras are really intriguing. I'm REALLY glad to hear yours plays so well- mine doesn't, but after concluding it needs work on the nut, I haven't gotten around to doing it. I'm glad to hear that it has the potential to be a good guitar, cause mine isn't, not yet.

BTW, sorry for the delay with the early Explorer pics. My guitars are presently buried behind a stack of boxes while we remodel- safe, but not good for grabbing one and photographing it. Hopefully soon.

Thanks for your help. I'll try the other suggestion.

Ha Ha. Taka your time. The body is very heavy. Action is fine, but I'll try to lower some more. Don't know yet if it's possible.

I'll check it out. Thanks.

I've got Firefox 1.02. I'll try that 1st then the Java. Yeah, the bass in ebay didn't show either, so I used Explorer. Firefox is great. I get no junk...period.

Guy with the P bass response:
no.. i do not. 84 or earlier i would guess it would have to be. thanks for your interest.
take good care
RC

I upgraed Firefox to 1.03 but same prob. Java seemed too complicated to deal with. I can just use Explorer when I can't see certain pictures.

Thanks
