Could this really be an Electra?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... Track=true

They are bidding on it fast and furiously.

I'm fairly certain this isn't the first time one of those guitars was passed off as an electra. Last verdict IIRC was a unanimous "No Way".

Electra Mike is gone so he won't be able to confirm. Lenny, aside from being a bit of a prankster, knows almost as much (but then again, he plays a banjo :D ).

I think it may have been Tim G that identified it.

Hopefully those bidding have done their homework and been by here to check the Electra pages.

That's a Memphis. I have one of those pickguards with the built-in effects, haven't tried it out though. You can see a clearer view of it here:

I wouldn't condemn it as a worthless guitar, though I've never played one, I expect it's along the lines of a Silvertone. But certainly not an Electra nor the likes of any Uncle Matt guitar.

My friend had one of those. It played allright. Nothing really special, but fun if you know what I mean.

They were obviously released under a number of re-brands. I don't recall which label or two Tim identified. I've only played one in a pawn shop a very long time ago and was not impressed with the effects. Novel, yes. Practical, no.

Memphis does not surprise me at all. I've never really understood the gap in the Memphis models I have owned and seen. The two I had were both neck-thru, and very well constructed guitars, similar to Vega or Vantage. I've seen a couple of low end bolt LPs and a low end strat as well. Not really anything in the middle though.
