Hi there, I'm just wondering if anyone can help.

I'm considering buying an Electra MPC Ultima X960. It's going for €600 it is in excellent condition and has 2 modules in it. It seems like a good price but I'm no expert......

Also the serial number is 001055 does that mean it's a 1980 guitar?????

Thanks a million.

The Electra MPC Ultima X960 was introduced in 1980 and discontinued in 1982.

Is the original case included?

What MPC modules are included?

Is this in Euro dollars or pounds?

If so - I don't know what the exchange rate is these days;

However one in superb shape with 2 MPC's and the case should bring between about $350 - $500 USD (and I am guessing);

What does everyone else think? :up: 8)

Thanks for the prompt reply. My name is Brian and I'm in Ireland so it's in Euro.

There is no case but the MPC's are a "filter follower" and a "1 Phase Shifter" both with colour switch.

Brian -

The fact that I have always salivated for one these makes me stick with the original $350 - 500 USD regardless of not having a case;

Check the MODULES tab at the web sight for sounds for each MPC module;

I also suspect that living in Ireland with the humid climate might require a GOOD case though;

I am lucky that I live in the plains of Texas where the humidity some days is below 20%;

Hope you are lucky enough to get it;

Thanks Randy. I know that guitars over here can sometimes be a little overpriced but I really love the guitar.

Plus I have a dehumidifer for my acoustic so I think I would only be doing the Ultima a favour by bringing it home to a nice dry room ha ha...

Thanks again,
Brian.

the price might not be so far off- guitars go for 100-200 more in europe than in teh US< I notice... and if you're thinking about what to do for the benefit of the guitar, admit it, you're hooked. best give in to temptation and give it a home...

I had a model only a step or two down from the Ultima, and other than weight, it was one of the more solid guitars I have seen. The thing was built like a tank and designed to outlive it's owner. :) I also like the way it played. I don't have it now as there were new guitars to try. I believe Leia here owns an Ultima, and has for some time now.

It really is a serious piece of wood. I work in a music store and have access to some vintage gibsons but there is something special about the Ultima.

I'm really a drummer and tend not to get too caught up in the hype of over priced vintage guitars. I find the ultima versatile and reassuringly heavy. It is my favourite guitar in the shop and I am mainly buying it for recording my own stuff.

I got my hands on a Hohner 'The Prinz' as well for €250 which I love for its rhythmic qualities.

I have seen Leia's collection on the Electra Site and it is outstanding. I think she has two Ultimas. Lucky Leia.

Just in case no one mentioned it, I think that the leading "0" in the serial number does mean it was built in 1980 (if it's consistent with the other Uncle Matt guitars I've come across).

One thought is to take the numbers that Lenny put forth, share them with the guy selling it, and ask if there's any wiggle room on his price. If you put it that way to him, he shouldn't be offended, and can choose to either give you a break on his price, or hold fast to it. Might it help your negotiations with him to mention that you work at a music store, and so would be able to give him good service on any of his future music equipment related needs?

First I'd like to say thanks to all of you for the GREAT information.

There's only one problem; the guy I'm buying the guitar from is the owner of the shop I work in so I can't realy offer him any services ha ha.

I'm thinking €550 is a fair price for the guitar including 2 MPCs. I'm willing to pay the full €600 but obviously I'm not goin down without a fight.

I love the guitar and I'm not one to beat around the bush.

Thanks again for all the help folks I think I'm gonna try and hunt down an Outlaw next. I've never seen such a cool guitar (bar the X960 of course).

Will get back to you all when I strike a deal with the boss..............

Well thanks for the suggestion Leia. Will be back at work tomorrow so will have a decision and hopefully a guitar by tomorrow night.

Have been doing as much research as the Internet will allow on Electras and they really have gotten under my skin.

I've seen the brochures on the website. Is the Ultima a fairly top end guitar in the Electra family?

I presume IMHO means I must have one.

Well in 12 hours I will know if I have one, so fingers crossed.

Had to put up a Jethro Tull album cover as my image FOR NOW. Will put the Ultima up soon for the forums expert scrutiny.
