The Electra Forums

I know we here have been through this one numerous times, but it never fails. Some "expert" at some shop tags one of these cute little toys an Electra. Most of you are quite aware this is a goof, but just in case someone is unsure.

Fooled me, and I started "watching" this one yesterday. Now I've looked closer at the headstock and see there is no name. So, it's like a copy of a copy? Manufacturer unknown?

I like the LL suggestion of the "not what it seems" page here for newbie dummies like me!

They were distributed under the Kay label, and since Kay was for part of it's life associated with Valco, Supro, and Silvertone they may have also been badged as such.

Well, at least the "Buzz on eBoink" forum has earned it's keep once now.

We'd have to adopt some pretty stringent criterion or the page would overflow in no time! For starters, "made by" and "matsumoku", "matsumoka", "matsumoko", and all the other popular mis-spellings are definitely out. I thought Uncle Matt's name had become a shameless buzz word before M. Wrights article came out, but now....

I'm not going to contact people any more either. I've had my face chewed off, and been called some pretty colorful names. Worse though, is just after a couple of explosive responses (even though I was polite) I noticed hack attempts of every known sort against the site and forums. I cannot risk this any more.

This guitar was also sold under the Memphis brand. I've got a set of the electronics, and they arent bad, as old vintage gritty solid state effects go.

I just hope nobody gets the wrong idea and confuses this one for an MPC...

I've had one too with missing badge/logo (sticker fell off) and it was a neat toy, but not something I'd play all the time.

That would be my concern as well. Not even in the same school as an MPC much less same class.

Since my first priority for getting a guitar is that it be one I'm going to enjoy playing (fit, feel, sound, etc.), I'm certainly glad that "The buzz on eBoink" came through for me on this one. I've really been trying to tell myself no more new guitars until I sell an old one to make room, but I keep looking anyway, and if the right Uncle Matt pops up at the right price, well, who could blame me?...

One hopes that the fact that there is nothing on the guitar that says 'Electra', either on the headstock or elsewhere, will tip off the savvy buyer- and one would hope that anyone who thinks the 'Electra' name is a good thing will have at least a little bit of a clue.

I have never really had any problems with ebayers in the uk, cross fingers, touch wood and turn round 3 times.

These faked ebay-offers from chinese (fake)sellers are very present at the moment - also at ebay germany
But in my mind they are "utterly stupid".
Their faked auctions run nearly at the same time as the original and the sellers has allways no ratings.

Bid and buy allways with mind .........
