so I stop in at my friend Dirk's guitar shop to drop off a jazzmaster pickup cover... I'm just about to leave, and I spot something familiar looking in the corner....

it's a black Westone Spectrum FX X199BK. with the flat black accent stripe, and a few added stickers :)

and the trem has been switched out with a Floyd Rose.

Wow, a black one. I have never seen a black one.

What do you think? Is it the bomb or what?

What did you get it for if I may ask?

I plugged it into my bass amp, and checked it out, electronics seem to be fine. though I didn't realize all 3 pots were push/pull as well....

it's s/n: 5043205

neck and action are great. lots of dings, a few scratches, frets still pretty decent...

$100 :D kinda makes me rethink my "build my own tele" project I've been collecting parts for....

Holy smokes!

That one is both a) the best guitar of all the Phoenix/Spectrums and b) the rarest- black FX's are seldom ever ever seen in the US, you see them occasionally in the UK. (plus I think people hang on to that color)

Giant congratulations! You really scored, and you're going to love this guitar!

It's also interesting because it's a very early one, and it has the early neck with the heel and the hex poles. All the other black FX's I've seen have been later, 86, with the smooth neck and the blade cover over the poles.

By far there are more red and silverstone (gold) FX's of that early type, and by far most of the later ones are white. I have wondered if there were really all four colors made all along, and this does suggest that there were least a few black FX's in the early batch.
