This looked interesting, but I can't quite make out the brand, and neither can the owner. He thinks it's an Aria, and that's where it's listed, but there are doubts. It is a Japanese made instrument, but there is no proof provided it is made in Matsomoku, and there is no serial number to help either. However it looks like a nice, well-built guitar, and it even has active electronics.

Any ideas? :-?

Found Powerformer tied to Avea and Anea .....

I found this on Guitarsite

Quote:
have an ANEA Powerformer series Bass guitar that is copy of a Daion MarkXX bass. I have tried to do some research but always come up empty handed. There is no serial #. There was and anea electric guitar forsale on ebay a few months ago and I noticed that it was a copy of Daions electric. I feel that somehow Anea and Daion are connected. My anea is a bolt on neck and the Daions are neck-thruogh. Daoin was a company in texas that was owned by a japanese guitar builder and they made very quality instruments in the early 80s but soon went bankrupt. That's about all I know.

There is a '82 Daion brochure on Vintaxe.com, but nothing that looks like this.

Here's more info on Daion... and possibly manafuacturers at the bottom (not Matsumoku though)

http://www.paulabecker.com/cpc/daion/daion_info.html

actually, there's lot's of info on Daion out there, but only one thing that points to a link to Anea or Avea

Good research mcbrat.

Isn't it odd that the script on the headstock can be taken as either Anea, or Avea. It's tough to make it out.

It does appear to me to be a pretty high quality instrument. However, I don't believe it is a 70's vintage guitar. The design looks to modern, as does the headstock writing, and the condition from the pics seem to be almost to flawless. No aging to be seen anywhere. I'm guessing late 80's is more likely.

It may be worth a bid, if I can find out more...

Well, someone liked it, as it was gone on the first day! They didn't seem to care who made the guitar, or maybe they actually knew something about it. It went for a quick $200.00.

Anyway, it looked like a decent guitar...
