Hi All,

I've been searching the internet trying and figure out what kind of guitar I have. I picked it up many years ago-(mid-80's) in a pawn shop because of the wood and finish. I'd never seen one like it before. I didn't play it much over the years but it's in decent shape and sounds good.

The pickups are pretty hot but aren't potted and have no distinguishing marks on them. And, the pot's have solder over some of the markings so no help there either...

I'm curious because it shows "Electra" in gold lettering on the headstock, but it's definitely not an SLM X910 Electra. (No MPC modules.) And, it doesn't fit the description of some of the PCM Electra's I've seen either because of the gold lettering and no "X" on the headstock.

Can anyone identify what this might be? The serial number isn't stamped on the plate, it's a pasted on label and shows "TL900ML".

Sure looks like an electra. Same font as my tele. I reckon just cause there's not a pic on the electra site doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

without definite catalogs to help determine anything, lot's of theorizing can take place

The Electra name looks like it was reused in the mid-late 80's after it was abandoned by SLM. not sure if it was PCM using it again or not. some of the "Electra" branded Fender clones from this time frame used a funky hooked headstock, which could be seen on other brands, such as Tanara, Vista. and Grand Prix.

the Electra log re-used in this time frame, was both the "Round E" early style, and the "computer" type font found on the early catalogs...

Wow!!! That's fantastic!

My guess is it's a high-end PCM Electra, and so it's like high-end Kasuga-made guitars. The rectangular model stocker on the neck plate suggests that too. It looks and feels very much like that weird bound tele I have.

The question is- is it Japanese or is it Korean? Evidence points to a bunch of the PCM Electras being mid-70's Korean, like my PCM Explorer is. If these are Korean though, they're definitely high-end models.

Thanks for all the replies with info. I'm glad I found the forum. I knew it was an "off-brand" guitar when I bought it. But it was so unique and had such beautiful wood I just had to have it!

Turns out it plays nicely too! I had to replace the cheapo cast zinc saddles on the strat-style hardtail bridge with some standard bent steel ones. And, after a truss rod adjustment the action is great.

I was actually thinking of selling it off on E-Bay but after playing it for a while now I'm thinking I'll just keep it!

I've never seen one like that, but I'd say it's an Electra. No one would fake that logo! (At least not yet).
