I own a X 930 that I bought new. My problem is, I don't have the paperwork anymore after all these years. Is there any way of telling the year of manufacture from the serial number? I know they were manufactured from 1980 to 1983. Thank you.

Possibly. I'm not certain about the Vulcan, but many 80's Electras can be dated by the serial number (which not all have). First digit = year, second & third = month. So 310123 would be 10/83.

Thank you.. Mine only has a 5 digit serial number and the firs 3 are 113.

ah, then that doesn't fit the pattern.

Unless it's possible the guitar was manufactured in January 1981, thus the 11 in the beginning of the serial number. Would that make sense? That is the only theory I can come up with. It's a great old guitar.

Hey allengx930, Your Vulcan may be older than you think! I bought mine in Houston 10-3-78, and the serial number is 11404, so yours is more than likely older than mine Pretty cool don't you think? and yes, I do have the sales slip because I never took it out of my guitar case Wow, I did something right for once Who knows why the x930 manufacturing dates are posted 1980-83? Where did you purchace your Vulcan?
