I was reading some tips on shielding your guitar and they mentioned conecting all shielding to the ground. I shielded the control cover to my X290 with copper tape. However I did not want to soder a wire from the cover to the ground for two reasons. 1) I did not want to melt the plastic cover and 2) I did not want the wire and cover in the way should any work be needed in the future.

Here is what I cam up with. I soldered a piece of wire to the copper tape before putting it on the cover and I soldered a small aligator clip to the end of the wire. I attached the tape with the wire to the back of the cover (with the other copper sheilding) and then cliped the aligator clip to the ground wire. The thought being I could just unclip the wire from the ground and have everything out of my way if I had to work in the area.

My question, is this a viable solution/ good tip for others or is there some potential problem I have not considered?

I would do everything you propose except the aligato clip idea. To much potential for it to come loose and short against comething you don't want. I would get a male and female wire connector of your prefrence & guage from radio shack. Solder a wire to the male end, and the copper tape. Solder a wire to the female end and your ground point. Plug the connectors together, there you go!
