i just got this guitar from my g/f stepdad for x mas and it is in almost mint condition the hardcase is a little scratched but nothing really big it till has the sticker that came on it and i have 3 of those boxes that go in the back they all work fine i was wondering how much it may be worth thanks william

Maybe someone will chime in with prices who watches MPC guitars on ebay (I don't.) In general I can tell you for sure that the Electra brand is generally undervalued, the price is usually remarkably low for such high quality- equivalent guitars of other brand sell for much more.

Which makes Electra guitars, and this excellent model you have, superb values for the musician, and not such a great deal for the dealers.

i will keep my guitar safe on day it will be worth more

Well, we all keep thinking that "gee, some day these things will be worth a bunch more". But it doesn't seem to have happened yet, especially at present when you can buy a brand new Chinese or Korean strat for a couple hundred.

There was a time when part of the appeal of these instruments was that they made a professional level of quality available for the price of a student instrument. That is part of why we love them- so many of us have stories of stumbling on one, a cheap deal or a gift, and realizing it unlocked for us the capability to play and sound like the pros.

Now you can get something -almost- as good, for less, new. And for most people that's a far as they look. And frankly, brand recognition counts far more for most people than quality anyway- if it says Fender or Gibson, it's a known thing like Harley or Levi's. Beyond this are the collectors, who are frankly nearly as emotionally fickle as the general public. Think an early Elger or Crown guitar is ever going to be worth as much as an early Greco from the same factory?

I suppose it's possible that somebody will make a hit movie, and the next Ferris Beuller will have an Outlaw or a Dynasty in his bedroom, and then everyone will want one, and my collection will suddenly be way cool. Yeah right.

I could be wrong, but my hunch is that Electras will always remain pretty much what they are now- a 'best kept secret' that never quite gets the attention they deserve.

...and once again the stage will be set for some down-on-her/his luck musician who stumbles across some homely instrument in a pawn shop... "that thing? somebody spray painted it flat black. It works though... I'll let ya have it for $75..." And the rest of the story is told late that night when they get it cleaned up and restrung and plugged in, and once again it wails and howls to the moon, and from that lovemaking new music is born once again.

Oh yeah... the 'almost'? The secret ingredient these instruments have is soul, mysteriously installed at the factory. And that's one thing the guitar blue books never seem to measure.

x189 put into words, the feeling that i think most electra fans have. i have owned many different brands of guitars over time. and although i am not that great of a player, i can always make my electras sing with more feeling than i ever could with my gibsons and others. i loved my gibsons, don't get me wrong. it's just that the electras have seemed more like a trophy catch to me. by the way, i would gladly take that x930 off your hands if you would part with it bajaboy0407.

Beautifully put x189. I've loved my 79 outlaw since 1979 and now via eBay have collected an embarrasing amount of wonderful Electras. I should stop, but can't. I haven't gotten a bad player yet!
