OK, a return to the x-140....

I can NOT figure out the wiring for the 3-way. Is it a DPDT switch? I'll try to draw a diagram... I would like to use the stock 3-way if possible. It's looking like that ain't gonna happen, though... So I'm thinking I'll replace it with a 'normal' 3-way, and a toggle to add the middle switch in series. No REAL problems there..

As for the nut, there is a local lutheir shop that has a bucket of old used brass nuts, and has offered to replace mine for $15 - $40 sight unseen

I think that's my best route, as the nut that came with this guitar is a) broken b) from an acoustic guitar and so would be pretty well useless for a template. Also I don't have any nut files.

Unless anyone can help with with either a source for a slotted brass nut that will fit, or at minimum the string spacing in mm, I think i'll take her in..

I can give you string spacing, let me dig up a metric ruler.

The 3-way is a standard guitar 3-way, which is not the same as a DPDT, it selects A or B ot both- so it's an On-On-On, but not the same as standard electronics On-On-Ons either (those are like a Mustang or Duosonic). They have three lugs, one for each pickup hot lead and one that goes to the volume pot.

You can get replacement 3-way switches at any guitar electronics supplier, or most likely from your local music store. The only thing to check is physical fit- there are some L-shaped 3-way switches used in Gibsons that won't fit in that space, you want the smaller more normal looking kind.

The 3-way in mine has 6 poles. And they are not redundant, as in the on/on/on in my t-60 with 6 poles, where adjacent poles are attached:

or something similar; it REALLY looks like a DPDT.. I'm VERY familiar with wiring guitars, so I GUESS I'll just replace it with a standard guitar 3-way (I've got a gold one in stock SOMEWHERE) and an SPDT to get the middle pickup in series with the other two..

Well, tat graphics didn't come out.. but hopefully you can guess at what I meant.

it does sound like someone put a DPDT in there. I just pulled the pickguard off an X140 and the 3-way has only three lugs.

But... I seem to remember having seen 3-way switches with six lugs like a DPDT, and only one side being used. I'd test it with a volt meter to make sure both side lugs are connected to the middle when the switch is in the middle position.

The 3-way with 6 lugs is the switch in the first diagram, same as came in my peavey t-60. I haven't cheked it with a multi (DUH!) but the wiring is just so jacked up, if it is in fact a 6 pole 3-way switch there is NO way it could posibally work the way it is wired...
