On Vintaxe, there's an '82 brochure, and the features look the same as the x-145(BLue & Red) but the x-145VS (vintage sunburst) does not have the fat switch and has the jack on the side, not front like this one...

so not all x-145s have the same features, but with different finishes....

plus the burst is different. the VS has black edges...

You're right on two counts- there are two versions of the X145, the earlier ones with 'deluxe' metalflake paint and black pickguard, and the later ones with no pickguard. And I've not seen this particular finish, the 'Natural Sunburst' would you call it? 2/81 puts it early, in the first four months of production.

But this could also be an X140, and I'm inclining toward that direction anyhow. The early X145's with pickguards came out in 82, this is too early for that, and they all had that anniversary tag on the back of the headstock. I think this is an X140 in an unusual color.

the '82 brochure on Vintaxe shows both kinds of x145... the BL and R and the VS like mine seperately....

I've seen the basses in the older burst but not the VS... wish I would though :)

yeah, natural burst is a good description :)
almost a brown burst....
