The new version of the Electra page is now in beta, I invite everyone to visit and give feedback!

http://www.rivercityamps.com/electrapage/

Here's what you need to keep in mind:

This thing is in beta, therefore there's a lot of content that's still going in- in particular only a handful of the model pages have been entered yet- if you go to the model index a few actually are there, the rest of the links take you to the 2242 Super Rock. I'll be entering the rest and you'll see them go up soon.

There is a lot more information besides the models. Leia and a lot of otehr people have generously donated catalog scans, many of which haven't seen the light of day yet but will soon. Likewise the Collections section. Be patient, it's all coming.

The main reason for switching is to allow the use of a Content Management System- no more editing HTML pages, that never gets done! As you'll see it's based on blog software. One of the things this allows is the ability for visitors to comment- something I've been wanting for a long time. The forums are great, but I'd like people's discussion of a particular model to be there in the site rather than buried in the forums.

It's not particularly obvious (I have to fix this) but to comment, you click on the name of the page- in this case the name of the guitar model. Then you can add a comment.

Note also you can post pictures in the comments! Yes, this means that visitors to the Electra page will now be able to post pictures of their guitars directly to the site where they can be referenced by future visitors. I think you'll agree this will mean a whole new era for the Electra Page.

Finally, the old Electra Page will continue to remain up indefinitely in its current form for archival purposes. All the old content- pictures and data- will be included in the new site plus any new material.

One of the interesting details you'll notice in the new Electra Page is that finally we'll begin to keep track of the PCM Electras, something we've needed for a long time. It will also include the 85-6 SLM Westones, since all are either continuations of Electra models or closely related models. The complete range of Westone guitars is well covered at the Westone site, but nowhere are the Electra Phoenix, Electra Westone, and Westone Spectrum models considered together as they ought to be.

New content and features will be going up, so check back often, and if you've considered posting pics of your guitar, shout and I'll get the page up for your model sooner than later. Once everything is up and in place I'll add links to the new page to the forum headers so people find their way their.

Finally, please let me know if you have any technical problems or bug reports. The code for this site is something I've been working with, and it's pretty reliable.

Thanks!
Paul

OK, I just finished posting the pages for the non-MPC LPs. Woo hoo! That means I'm 1/10th of the way done!

just a general terminology question...

the x-610 and 620 basses are listed as "set neck" on the pages and I've seen lots of people use this term to refer to the "neck thru" guitars/basses such as the later Corsair Stereo Bass, and the Outlaw MPC Bass...

I've always been under the assumption of 3 main types:

bolt-on
set neck (neck with longer heel glued into the body)
thru neck (neck goes all the way through the body, with body wings glued to it)

I've seen some brochures describing neck-thru as "built in" as well....

is the terminology regional?

OK, both the Outlaw basses look like set neck to me.

I haven't seen the term 'set neck' applied to neck through, and I'd be surprised to hear that, because 'setting a neck' is exactly what you don't do with a neck through, you build it in.

Yeah, it's really hard to see in the photos that they're neck-through. So does that mean the Outlaw guitars are too? (kinda makes sense...)

Got the SG's, Vees and Explorers done. For the first time I've begun including PCM Electras on the Electra page- which I think needs to be done. I'll probably include a Crate Electra too, just for the record. People should know what they are.

I've got some weird PCM Electras coming, including a bound tele and its twin under another brand (gotta take pics still)

But so anyway I'm jsut trying to add a couple models every night if I can, that way it slowly but surely gets completed. Then the fun part can start with compiling articles and getting the catalogs in and posting catalog pics on every model... there's a ton of fun to come!

The strats and teles and the F- G- and R-basses are entered too. Now all that remains is the workingman/invicta group, Phoenixes, and the pointy models.

McB., I hope you'll step up to fill in the details about the Corsairs- there's a lot more detail and you've documented these better than anyone. Would you rather email me info, or go in and edit the model listings yourself?
