I recently purchased an Electra Corsair and the number on the neck plate is 2278. Is it safe to assume that this is the model number?

Can anyone help me date this model ?

Thanks,

M. Bart

Yes, the 2278 was the "sunburst" bolt neck model. it was made '74-'76.
should have full width crushed pearl inlays. Mono Output.

In 77 they changed to Neck Thru stereo output models, with smaller inlays....

Great thanks for the info.It does have full width crushed pearl inlays. and it is a sunburst w/a mono output .I do have a few more questions:
Did the bridge pup have a cover ? This bass has 2 small holes above and below the bridge pup. Also it looks like it may have come with a string damper the 2 holes on either side of the bridge look worn as if the adjustment screws were used at some point. I know it's too late but how much should I have paid for this bass , it is in good shape.Any insight would be great.

Thanks for your help!

yes, there was a cover over the neck pup, but it seems most have been lost over the years.

yes, the bridge had a string mute. also, the All Parts replacement bridge for what the Corsair copies, is a direct fit :)

for the past couple of years now, due to the removal of the auction on eBay when they are discovered, the price has risen on these... project onesusually are 200-300, and the bolt necks have gone for 450-500. the neck thrus have been hitting the 600-800 range.

this is also due in part to the limited availability/prices of the real thing...

Thanks again for the info. Do you know where I could find the toggle switch ?

This is my second Electra bass I absolutely love it. My other bass is a Phoenix x640w. It has dual p-pups and active eq.SN:103301. I purchased it on 4/3/1982. I just found the receipt last week .The serial number on the receipt is actualy different, maybe its the part number? (SN:12228152112) . I am curently searching for all the other paperwork that came with it. I actualy sold it to a friend of a friend about 5 years ago and really missed it. I just bought it back from him in May of this year. I'll post some pics as soon as I figure out how.

This web sight is great I'll be using it quite often as my Electra collection grows.

Thanks Again,
M. Bart
