When you have a strap button hole that is stripped don't force a bigger or longer screw in the hole....or even worse...drill another hole in your guitar and move it over, just get a wood toothpick, put a little wood glue on it and shove it in the hole as far as it will go, break it off or cut it off flush with the body, if there's any excess glue wipe it off with a damp cloth or paper towel, then let it dry for a few hours and put your strap button back on.

I screw the button in when the glue is wet. Elmers doesn't stick to metal very well, so it's not like it's gonna never come off. Darn close though! The screw kinda cuts the wet glue and toothpick in to the hole more that way, I think.

I've done several without glue and had no problems, lol...I recently was watching some Electras on ebay and saw a beautiful MPC... someone had drilled another hole and moved the strap button over, right by the neck....I was cringing looking at it thinking to myself "why would anyone do that?" I was hoping my tip would save a few guitars, just about every used guitar I have ever bought had at least one strap button that has been altered, usually with a bigger screw. PS: Dunlop dual design strap locks are a wise investment for any guitar, the Dunlop dual design buttons have a wide flare so if you use a strap without the locks installed it is more secure, and of course if you have the locks installed you have no worries. Better safe than sorry.

Good point on the Dunlops- that's always a reason to hesitate adding strap locks, if you can't sontinue to use a normal strap as well.

...my ancient Schallers are dual purpose - I had 'em installed on my VA900 before I took it out of the shop in 1980! :D
