Ok. Ive had this guitar for about 2 years and I want to know what kind it is, Whatyear it is, and what it is worth (im not selling unless I am forced to.) I realize it doesn't have the original knobs, tuners, or pickguard but everything else has been restored to exactly what the original was. (So i was told) The closest I can find to it is a model x935.
What do you think?

The neck plate on the back says:

On the back of body it has a black circle plate in the top right and a squarish metal plate in the botom left.

Looks like an X935 to me.

The closest knobs to the original would be aftermarket Allparts 'speed knobs' as they're called. Originally Gibson used knobs like this and it became a standard choice for many brands. That would look much nicer than the mismatched strat knobs it has now.

The thing to be careful of is that Gibson knobs won't work- american guitars (well, gibsons anyway) have fine splines on the shaft, while imported guitars use a coarser thread (along with metric sizes). So if you try to fit a Gibson knob on a Japanese guitar, they only fit halfway on. You can force them by pinching the split shaft together, but you're risking breaking off half the shaft, and if you press too hard you can break the potentiometer underneath.

Much much better to source 'import style' (also called 'Ibanez style' as though all imports werer Ibanez) knobs. I do believe you'll find Allparts knobs are correct, and you can usually find those at your local Guitar Center, or ordering online. But beware, most guitar store staff don't know anything about the difference in knobs.

ok. That's what I thought. I was just confused because the X935 has two switches down by the knobs and different plates on the back. Yeah. I have been trying to find knobs for it but no luck yet. I guess I am going to have to order them off line.

The switches were probably coil tap and phase reverse- does yours have pull-switch pots? At a certain point it seems like those were replacing toggle switches, so the model may vary year to year.

I think Stewart MacDonald, stewmac.com, has knobs that fit too.

It does look alot like a X935 (endorser), but that same body shape was used for the Invicta, Vulcan and Workingman models, and possibly others. Headstock peacesign logo predates the Phoenix 'Bird' logo. Bolt on neck, huge fret markers, 'Rhythm/Treble' label and non-brass nut would be things that differ from what I've seen on X-935's. Pickguard is most likely not stock as you've already noted. I'm wondering if the tone pots are push/pull coil-cut and phase switches like the Endorsers were? Very Curious instrument, but not sure I would call it an Endorser. Here is a picture of my two X-935cs's

if memory serves me right, the omegas also adopted this shape in the latter years.... there was a set of brochures/data sheets that sold on ebay a month or so ago that had an omega data sheet showing this body style

don't know if the purchaser is a friend of the electra site or not, but i seem to remember his call sign on the matsomoku site... drk or drk0 or something like that... might not be the same guy but i think it is...

oh... and nice x935s proendorser... based in ann arbor are you? i bought my X810 sunburst from a secondhand music shop in ann arbour about 5 years ago...

Getting a 'thumbs up' from Ms. Leia is quite the endorsement (pun possibly intended). Your collection of flamey Semi's is almost Legendary, and put my guitars to shame. Which music store? I think the only 2nd hand stores left now are 'Music Go Round' and 'OZ's Music'. All the great stores that I grew up with here are long gone, the big box 'Guitar Centers' and 'Musicians Friends' are putting most of the Mom and Pop stores out of business, at least here in the midwest.

I haven't been over the bridge (or tunnel...) to Windsor in like ten years, and they just changed the border policy so that you need a passport just to get back into the states now, so I'm not sure when I'll visit your proud province again. Take care, Mike.

hi mike... the shop i got the x810 from seemed to be a "mom and pop" or just a "pop" type operation... they had a wee dog that had the run of the place... cute and friendly... the place was called:

and they had a website at www.bossguitars.com although it no longer seems to be in operation... they used to have some weird guitars listed on the site.... kind of a neat place...

a quick search of the internet reveals the owner is now in calif.
