I own an Electra LP custom, black with the gold hardware that I bought new in 1975. This means it could be from any model year up to 1976 I would assume. There is no model number anywhere on it, not evven on the plate where the neck bolts on.

The guitar is identical in nearly every aspect to a Gibson LP custom, even the logo and inlays on the headstock.

Can anyone help me indentify it? I'm curious as to it's worth, not that I'd ever sell it. If I need to, I'll post a picture soon. THANKS

Sounds like a 2242, although usually the model number didn't appear on it. I'm assuming it has a diagonal-style logo (similar to a gibson logo). If the headstock is open book with a notch in the center (i.e. jsut like Gibson) then it's probably 74 or eaerlier- very likely a 74. We don't know exactly what month, but somewhere around 75 they switched to a transitional shape with no notch.

A look at the hardware and binding would tell us most about the details of this guitar. In general there were two variants, one withe the diagonal logo and one with a round-E. It seems like they were from differnet factories, but we don't know for sure yet.

thanks for your reply. It kind of looks like the pic, with the open book headstock, and I guess it's the Gibson-type logo, mother of pearl or abalone or something. It has black top hat knobs and gold pick-up covers.
It resembles the 2252 from the '72 catalog, but it is black, not red.

It has "custom" engraved in the truss rod cover. The knobs on the tuners are a white plastic material. ( I replaced them several years ago with gold-plated grovers).

There is no number of any kind that I can find on the guitar. I do recall getting a life-time factory warranty with it when I bought it, they gave me card similar to a credit card.
