So I got this old electra les paul which hung upside down on the ceiling of my neighborhood bar for as long as I can remember (others say at least 15 years), which is cool because the R Bar is one of New Orleans' classic neighborhood bars in the Marigny, a block from frenchman street and a block from the French Quarter. New owners were taking over and decided to do away with the upside down bandstand on the ceiling. I figured it would be cool to have "The R Bar Guitar," plus, years of nicotine seem to have done nice things to the finish. Well after cleaning it up a little - there was LOTS of grime on this thing - it looks pretty nice. I used it on a track (myspace.com/caseymcallister - the track is ilya2) before doing a thing - the same strings, everything - and it sounded okay, just very weak - very 60s. So I've cleaned it up a little and ordered a complete new les paul pots/wiring kit from gfs as well as a set of mean 90 p90's to fit in humbucker routes. Can't wait to get them in. I've seen similar models on the model listing, but none exactly, any ideas? Super Rock? the model number is not on the lable, and the serial starts with 019. Can't wait to get 'er wired up and back to health! pics:

I'd call that a 2245. The Peace Sign and open book headstock place it pretty firmly at 1975- it seems to me that the early ones were more reddish colored, like a cherry sunburst, and that later on they were more brownish. In any case, there doesn't seem to be a seperate model number for the two color variants.

Meanwhile, since that was right about the time the lawsuit issues started arising (note the 77 catalog doesn't show headstocks) and it has been alleged tha SLM stashed away a bunch of LP's with open-book style headstocks and then quietly sold them off a few years later when the dust settled.

It's a great guitar! The logo pins it firmly as Matsumoku, that's a fine thing. I would have suggested fitting MMK45's, but P-90's are great too! Let us know how it goes! Do save the original pickups and keep them with the guitar!

Sweet! I do plan to keep the pickups. I'm using the rings that are already on it as the plastic seems to have aged really nicely. I'm guessing it was never white, but cream - but even still there's a little discoloration from being in the bar and it looks great. I'm in love with how this guitar feels and the weight/balance is amazing. I'm gearing up for loads of sustain it looks like. I would go with 45s, but I have two humbucker guitars right now, and while this one would be different than either, i'm kinda jonesing for a good solidbody p90 guitar, and those gfs p'ups sound freakin' great for the price. I'll post some clips when they're in.
