I'm looking for a single coil pickup that was used in the Ibanez 2375, Silver Series and Challenger Strat clones during the mid 1970's. It shows in some Ibanez catalogs as a 2375-60 or hi-bite pickup. Maybe this pickup was used in some 70's Electra Strat copies? It has 'Excel' stamped on the back.

You can see some pictures of this pickup at:

http://www.oliver-pfaender.de/guitar/index.php

Scroll down to the middle and click on the Ibanez Silver Series #2375WH (1976) guitar. You can see some nice shots of the pickup including one with 'Excel' stamped on the backside.

I'm particularly interested in a middle pickup. If anyone has any info, please e-mail me at:

mkaufman at cloud9 dot net.

Thanks very much!
Michael

hi michael..

sorry i can't help you out... even though i do have exactly what you are looking for... i am just not ready to part with it... i just wanted to say thanks for the great pics of your guitar which have helped me learn the origins of mine...

i bought a strat copy guitar on ebay that had a lyle neck... when i received the guitar, i quickly found out that the lyle neck didn't fit it... which left me wondering what the body was from... i see now, that the body of mine has the exact body rout yours has... now i just have to determine if the neck plate goes with the body or the lyle neck.... anyways... if you are interested in seeing mine, email me at leia at cogeco dot ca

and good luck on your search...

Leia:

Just to clarify: that's not my guitar - it's just the only picture I could find of the 'Excel' pickup.

So...I gather that you have this pickup? Was there a specific Electra guitar that had this pickup or do you get it from another guitar?

tnx,
mk

Actually, in re-reading your post, I guess I know where the pickup came from. I sent you a PM for pictures...

Anyway...still looking for the pickup and more info...

 sorry mike... for some reason i was thinking that that guitar was yours... and that along with all the other damage that had been done to it, it had lost a pickup as well.... oh well... hope you enjoy the pics anyways...

as for whether some of the early electra or other uncle matt strat copies came with excels i can't tell you.... i thought the guitar i was buying at the time was a lyle and possibly an uncle matt, but that seems not to be so.... but whatever the origin of the the body of my guitar, it has excels in it

I recently photographed an Electra model 2275 Avenger (strat copy). It had Maxon pickups stamped with the number 12715 on all three.
