Has anyone ever encountered a fake Electra? Do they exist? I am not a collector and I have recently acquired 2 that I cannot identify. Any help would be much appreciated.

1. The first one looks identical to the front right guitar in David's collection:

2. Looks just like this one on Ebay but has a different knob configuration, as well as a different logo on the headstock:

They both have serial #'s on silver stickers which I find odd but again I don't know anything about them.

I couldn't figure out how to upload a picture so if you email me I will send them to you.

Thanks.

There are others here who are better at identification than I am so I will leave it to them. The silver stickers are normal for serial #, particularly for set neck models. The usualy also have a model no., though that was not always filled in.

These are real, but most likely PCM variants.

They are real alright. In fact, Dave George (me) IS Ecomtrust on Ebay ! That Super Magnum may verywell be the EXACT SAME guitar I just sold on EBAy..

I have never posted on this forum..my collection of Electras has grown to some 60 guitars with most models pre 1980 represented. I especially like the Pro Endorsers (I have 8 of them)....

I am excited about this forum because I have been collecting Electras for around 10 years now and didnt know that such an active forum was in existance-I spend a lot of time over at the ICW (Ibanez) I collect those too.....

A collection of 60 Electras! Impressive; maybe you could feature a few of them on the Forum.

Welcome Dave_g!

So dave is the guy I blame for not having another Electra.
Still, nice collection!
Unfortunately, no matter how many go on e-Bay, I'll never afford them.
I was lucky enough to get mine for 20 (yes, 20), let alone over 200. :bawl:
(This is the part where you feel sorry for me and give me a guitar.)

Actually I havent purchased an Electra for a LONG time...I remember when I bought 2 near mint Maple Pros THE SAME WEEK in 2003 ....each one for under $350......This collection has been in storage for at least 5 years for the most part. I was displaying them in a wall of cabinets in my office......Dont think I ever got one for $20 though!

I can't even find another Electra. Except the Crate Electra, but it isn't what I call a real winner. :P

Nice to meet you Dave. Your collection would really be an asset to our knowledge of Electras. Have you ever done photography of them? It would be nice to hear about your inventory.

You're the only other person I know who has a collection as large as mine (three digits total but I'd hate to estimate what percentage Electra- half?) It's a way of life, isn't it? But my guess is that there are many others out there we haven't heard from. There are some ebay bidders with some deep pockets out there (and probably unlimited storage space)

X...I have been collecting for aroud 30 years now -mostly Ibanez (can I say that here ?)..My Ibanez "Harem" is well over 200 instruments-95% of which are pre 1980 (Ibanez is my largest grouping, but I have over 500 guitars with major groups of Gibson, Electra, Aria Pro, Vantage, Westbury, Westone and many others (obviously I have a weak spot for "Uncle MAtts" guitars !. I got hooked on Electra early on, but-as you know-they are very hard to find in unmolested condition. I have kept the focus of my collection off of the MPC type guitars, although I have a couple of them hanging around.

Most models 1975-1980 are represented in my collection-even the Hard to find ones like the Maple Pro, Elvin Bishop, Pro Endorser, Invicta, LP clones (all) Magnum, Super Magnum, Omegas, Zepher and Studio Zepher, SG's etc...

I would be interested in providing picts-no problem-just steer me in the right direction of where and how to send them.....
