Does anyone know -
In any of their catalogs or sales brochures did SLM Electra actually ever refer to their headstock brand logo as "Peace Sign"?
I do see a resemblance to one; I always thought the SLM brand logo as two small 'e' letters facing one another (as if they are mirrored?), a marketing logo designed to coincidentally resemble a Peace Sign, albeit it is upside down on the guitars, but that is just my observation; as a high school and college student of the 60's I remember the Peace Sign thing coming into vogue.

I do realize it is necessary to indicate the "Peace Sign" models as a good reference point for this forum when discussing particular models and manufacture dates, etc.

Just asking.

No, Peace sign is just a term that, like you said, helps identify models.
It is just mirrored stylized "E'', again, as you said.

I'm no historian, but I doubt you'd see any reference to that logo as a Peace Sign in Electra/SLM literature. It's common for collectors and enthusiasts to 'name' stuff for recognition sake after the fact: Knucklehead, Shovelpan in the case of Harley Davidson, Blackguard and Skunkstripe with Fender and Openbook, Dog Ear or Soapbar P90 for Gibson (although, some of those may be in Gibson Literature).

The Mid-term logo for Electra I think is sometimes called the 'Round E' logo, which I don't think is very descriptive, I always think of it as the 'Goofy' logo, because to me it looks like something you'd see on a kids book or something, all the letters different sizes and well, just goofy looking. The angled script logo is kind of a ripoff too, but at least it looks classier than the goofy one.

The headstock shapes are also interestingly 'named', my fave, the shrimp fork on the Outlaw (hee hee). I'm not sure that I see a resemblance to a 'Fan' on the later Electra headstocks, but I do like that name better than 'Gumby Shaped' as I've sometimes heard it referred to as! I think I read on here that the Openbook headstocks were given the Center Cutout after Gibson raised a stink and the builders didn't want to waste materials, good for them, and it does help to date alot of the pre 80's guitars out there.

I had heard of the Gumby comparison for the Fan headstock - and Gumby is pretty close IMO, but the shrimp fork for the Outlaw is the best one yet; a new one for me - and fits to a 'T'.

Thanks,

Yes, Electra Guitar. Cause if you look at it, its upside down for it to be a peace sign.
