I've already had these pics posted on a thread in here, but figured as I go with this guitar, might as well start a new post dedicated to the work.

This is (what I believe to be) an X-185, it was found in the garbage by a friend. He plays, but since he's a lefty and he knew I was looking for a guitar, he gave it to me for a restoration project.

The guitar was found as you see it.......no hardware, no electronics, nothing.

Looks like a fun time.
I like the neck-through look body, I'd keep that, only make it look nicer.
Too bad about the headstock logo missing, but it isn't like you can't just make one on sticker paper.

...no, but you can get water slide decals made for a reasonable price; I had some made in the UK which are now on my strat project...





...these are on the headstock and there is another on the back of the body. You need to get the artwork for the logo and get that to the decal maker... so someone out there needs to take a pic or 2 of the Electra logo; I can't - my gear is in storage 1300 miles away!

Don't know if I will opt for decals..........I had NO idea what this was when I first got it and have thought to keep it that way. Yeah, I really do love the neck-thru look now. Was planning on sanding and re-finishing, but now may just go with a gloss clearcoat to seal it all up.....tho a friend had mentioned that I might lose some tone if I clearcoat it.......never in my life realized how much work can go into a guitar!!!!
(and in case I haven't said it enough, thank you all for all the info, it is making thisa lot easier to make decisions on what to do about this axe!!!)

Well, finally a start! Afetr quite a few weeks of basically no employment thanks to the wondeful Michigan economy, I've at least started getting this jumble of parts into a real guitar

Added the neck plate, a seymour duncan Duckbucker to the mid position and straplocks...on the way; the pots, trem, tuners and output jack...more to come

This would be a 1983 X185. 83 was a good year. I'm guessing the headstock has a serial number on the back starting with 3, right?

New idea, make it green (metallic, transparent, whatever!) with gold hardware.

You are correct X, it does start with 3, thanks for the info! Truthfully, I'm keeping the color as-is.....kinda like the neck-through look
More toys showed up today...more pics on the way.

If I were you, I'd repaint the neck-through section, or strip and stain it, unless you've already coated it over.

Pheonix, it is time for you to get a project and make it green with gold hardware. Am I mis-emembering or isn't that what you wanted me to do with my X310 project too?

Yes.
Who knows, maybe a certain Outlaw will one day be transparent green, and have hardware electroplated in gold...hmmm.....

Finally! Finished the guitar! Have played it A LOT and love the sound, tho I will probably have to take Corsair's advice and find some MMK's for this. Wanted to say thanks to everyone that gave advice, etc. on this guitar...especially Corsair.
