I just picked myself up an X730 yesterday with a functional Phase Shifter module. I had one of those throughneck doubleneck Corts that I just couldn't bond with and traded straight across for it. I was happy with the deal. Anyway, there are a couple of little boogers, like where some idiot tried to put a strap button in the heel (or what would be a heel on a guitar that had one!) and cracked the paint, a broken switch for the other module slot, and really, really low output, but other than that, I'm happy as all hell with it! I have it all taken apart at home right now, but once I get the electronics working properly and back together, I'll post up some pics.

Hey-did you guys know Ben Chafin (a fairly well-known Florida luthier with connections to US Dean) managed to get the rights to the Electra name and is planning to start a new line(US, Japanese, Korean)? Modules and all? I'm excited for him.

Anyway, I know this was probably a lot for a first post from some dude you don't know, but I really do dig my Outlaw and plan on playing it often. See you guys all back here on the forum!

Welcome man. I have a X710 Outlaw and I love it. It is my main for shows and rehearsals, etc... soon it will be joining me in the studio as we start work on our first EP.

Let's see...all I really need is a set of those switches, to open up the nut slots a bit, a 9v clip, fix a high spot on the treble side of the 20th fret, and pot these screeching pickups! I don't really consider any of that all that bad, but I've discovered that it's woefully neck-heavy. I think I'll fab up a 3-4 inch plate at work to screw into the stock upper strap location and put a button into the end of it with a machine screw. That way I can work around the center of gravity without really messing anything up. What do you guys think?

Thanks. I read all that and actually have used some of those techniques before-stick on wheel weights in the cavity on a couple old BC Richs ( sold the Mock and now the Warlock 7 is a boat anchor), and I've relocated the button on Explorers, Firebirds, and Vs. I've even used really long screws to stack buttons to give a Tele a more "neck up" feel! I'm convinced the best way is by moving that top button, and since there's no more wood to screw it into up there, I'll need some kind of plate to bring it further out.

Here's a couple pics I managed to snap off last night. I'll have to try to get some out in the sun today...I think I might drop by Radio Shack and grab a set of those switches.

Well, it worked. It's ugly, but temporary, and yes, it's a valve cover spreader. However, it works and got rid of the neck dive with nothing more than an extra screw hole.




I'll have one made of aluminum and then probably black anodized so it doesn't stick out as much. Hopefully it doesn't offend anybody too much, but at the end of the day, I see it as a functional improvement and thus, excusable! I also replaced the broken switches and potted the bridge pickup today, which I am happy to report is squeal-free. I really, really like this guitar.

I really don't think I'd have gone for that option...
But considering, what else can you really do?

Now, I can play it standing. I know it's weird looking, but I'm afraid there isn't enough material at the neck joint to handle a relocated strap button screw. It audibly flats or sharps if I lean forward or back, already. Anybody know if the Omegas are any better balanced? There's a pair on the bay right now that look pretty nice.

I have always been lucky (or unlucky) enough to play top heavy guitars. BC Rich Mockingbird, Gibson Explorer and now the Outlaw. I have gotten used to it, but I do admit, depending on what you are doing, it can hinder playability. Thank goodness all I have to do is chug on the low "e" and rock like a muthatrain...
