And I thought my $63 for a workingman in almost untouched condition was a buy. Its nice to see that he appreciates it. Were DiMarzio's an option on the Endorser? Just asking as he says it had stock American pups and DiMarzio's were an option on some other uncle Matts

I've seen this one.
The author also wrote another similar article on the Lady model.

This guy used to write for Vintage Guitar mag, and may still. I'm wondering if he meant '3 bills' (as in three Hundred dollars) as opposed to '3 bucks' in the article. I find this very hard to believe, even an American Snob letting an Endorser go for Three Dollars... I mean that wouldn't even buy you lunch at Mcdonalds twenty years ago. I do agree that the 70's pauls were quite possibly the worst Pauls that Gibson ever put out.

Three bills makes a lot more sense;

Still a great buy if it was that.

The Endorser and the articles about it are mine. At the time this Endorser was purchased, "3 bucks" was slang alternative for "3 bills" and understood among some of the earthier used guitar dealers as such ($300). "3 large" or "3 big" would have been $3,000. No one was earthier than Mac and Joe, who sold guitars after work at a little hole in the wall in the Woodland Avenue business district in Southwest Philadelphia, at that time a down-at-the-heals white workingclass neighborhood. I used to take the trolley down there after work and we'd sit and drink Scotch and watch the chicks (who generally needed a little help with the Scotch). It was closing time when this and the Les Paul walked into the shop. I pulled the guitar out last night and it is such a killer guitar. Besides knocking you out with looks, the guitar almost plays itself!

One point of clarification: elsewhere on the web people refer to the push-pull pots as "coil taps." Only the upper tone knob is a tap, working on both pickups simultaneously. The lower knob is a phase switch that functions in the middle position. For my taste, this is about the most elegant switching system there is on a twin humbucker guitar. Combined with the really hot pickups and a good capacitor rolloff, you can coax an amazing variety of sound out of this guitar. About the only flaw in this guitar is that if you had to stand up with it all night you'd better have a healthy back!

Is that you MW?

Thanks for the clarification; I thought it was $300.

I knew it! Thanks for the clarification, and welcome aboard Mr. W, I look forward to hearing your insights and wealth of knowledge on Japanese as well as other lesser known makes out there. My first three Electras were Endorsers, Cheers, Mike.
