First off, this is a project guitar. The seller lists the work that needs to be done, and is quite thorough, which is great. But here is a quick breakdown:

4-5 Frets need replacing
Needs a new nut
Needs Pups
Will probably need new pots
Needs a new bridge
Will need to be wired
Will need to be set up
Also the finish has been sanded off

So... considering all this, he has a buy it now price of $300 on this, and a reserve price that has not been met yet, with a bid of at least $52. At my local Luthierie Shop it would probably cost around $200 to get this in order, and that is if you ignore restoring it with the right parts... which would dramatically increase the cost. Please let me know if you guys agree with me on this, IMO this person is wanting too much for this guitar.

Thanks!

You're being kind... Maaaaybe $125 if it had a case. If he 'loved' it so much, how did he lose the nut, bridge and pickups? Looks more like he started to part it out. In it's defense it does look like a nice top, still has most of the electronics and hopefully hasn't been messed with too much. I'll pass.

 Will make a fine project for someone but not at that price. It wil take alot of TLC and plenty of parts to bring it back to original specs. I guess if you just wanted a LP setup like it seems so many do these days you could get by pretty cheap if the reserve was lower. I would not even consider it for a project at this price.

I can't imagine he will get $300 for it.
You can buy a completed Electra in good shape for that price.

So I messaged him through Ebay to tell him he was way off base on his pricing, and he sent me back to messages.

1st

Well thanks for all your insight but when was the last time you saw an
X-240 on ebay? And If it doesn't sell I'm fixing it myself...

and 2nd

By the way, 713 people have viewed this aution and there are 51
watchers...

I simply replied back to him and said... "Good luck with that"

I bid $65 for it... and that was my max. It is now @ $127.50 and the reserve is still not met. Perhaps this guy knows something I don't know... and I am sure if it hits his reserve price I will get an "I told you so" email from him.

More power to him, but I think that we are the Electra experts on this forum, and he isn't convincing us...

Cheers!

It got up to $182, and is now re-listed:

I'm surprised, I don't know if you guys saw my thread about the X250, but I picked that up for under $200 shipped, totally original and unmolested.

I also noticed that the Serial Number sticker is missing from this X240, which always makes me think that a guitar is stolen. I guess some people are really hard up for a project, because we've seen these go for $300-$400 totally straight.

It went for $200. Maybe the owner can finish it in time for electra fest?

I've been seeing these unfinished LP bodies from China showing up on Ebay.

Like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/PROJECT-ELECTRIC-GU ... 7C294%3A50

$189 "Buy it Now" price? No thanks! But it sort of makes the Electra Omega look like a bargain as with the Omega, you kinda know at least this used to be a nice guitar!

Set neck LP copies go for a premium on Ebay these days and it doesn't even seem to matter the brand name.

"There is a sucker born every minute!" - PT Barnum

Going the "Project" route on Ebay is NEVER a way to snag a bargain! The "Guitar Butchers" know this all too well as they dismantle guitars and sell them on Ebay. If you are lucky enough, you may just win the body in one auction, the neck in the other, the machine heads in another, and the electronics in yet another. By the time you are done, you may have paid three times for your "Do it yourself kit" than you would've paid had you looked in craigslist, around in the local pawn shops (or even in the regular Ebay listings) for the same guitar.
