HAs anyone here in the forum ever seen a X910 model up for sale anywhere? Back in my high school band days our other guitarist had a X910 and I had the opportunity to play it on occasion. I like the explorer body style and really like the X910. I keep my eyes out but I never see one out there anywhere, not even as a project. Does anyone know what the production numbers were on the X910? I would think that there were at least a decent number produced. I know that they have neck breaking issues but I would like to find one some day. I don,t even have a clue what they go for now days because I have never seen one out there anywhere for sale. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

JMM agrees with you that the X910 is the most elusive of the Electra line. We'll never know any production figures, but few have seen one for sale! The only one I've ever seen is the one that X189 restored, and that is very nicely documented by him in a forum topic.

So you've actually seen and played one? I think you are ahead of most of us 'dreamers' on the forum. Take care, Mike.

Yes I was fortunate enough to see and play his X910 on several occasions.It was my 1st experience with the MPC. He had the Phaser,fuzz,and Bass/Treble modules. It was a heavy guitar but most explorer styles tend to be on the heavy side. The neck was very nice for me as I have large hands. It was simular to the thicker LP style neck but still a very fast neck. The tuners were somewhat crowded(close together for me) as with any in line straight set tuners but were very good tuners. All the electronics and joints etc were top notch like most all Electra models. The sound was excellent with crisp clear highs and awesome power rhythm sounds through anything we plugged it in. I wanted to buy it from him but before I could he went and traded it in on a new Gibson V. What a mistake on his part but he liked the V and it fit his style. I wish I had been able to get my hands on it but I went to the music store he traded with the next day and it was already gone. I have since then never seen another one anywhere. I would like to get one if and when I ever see one again. I love the MPC's and I like the Explorer styles as well. If anyone ever gets a shot at one I would reccommend it but I expect a high price will be fetched for it.

I have a couple of X910's (not to brag), and they are very nice indeed.

But one word of warning- and maybe why you don't see them- the neck is fragile, it's mahogany, and it's set, and the body is a giant heavy plank. And the problem is, the case was never really adequate for it, it was a typical coffin-style case. So in my case I bought one on ebay, and when it arrived it looked like this:

I also have another one in better shape, except for a very similar broken headstock repair, done by the SLM shop. I got it from an SLM employee who bought it when it returned from a dealer, presumably broken in shipping. So... be careful with this one, it's delicate!

But yeah, an X910 with a pair of onboard flangers is one of my favorite things... the old Explorer shape makes me feel like I'm a guitarist for the Alice Cooper band in like 1973, just coming back to consciousness long enough for the solo...

Those solos required consciousness?

Sure, two flangers running different slow rates makes for a very nice organic swirll.
