I'm going on tour soon and want to take a couple of my Outlaws. I had one with the original case years ago and it was stolen. I'd like to find 2 more original cases. I have yet to find another case that fits correctly. I have some rigged up, but it's not the same. I'm going to have to check these on an Airplane and I want as much protection as possible. Any help or suggestions much appreciated.

Getting two original cases on time for your tour is going to be tough. They do turn up occaisonly on e-bong. I know Pelican makes some flight cases that you can easly customize. They have little cubes of foam in two or three layers. You remove the foam to conform to your instruments shape.

BTW what is the name of your band and are you going to be tourning in NYC? It would be a blast to see Outlaws used onstage.

is that an Outlaw case?

If so, I've got an extra one a lot like it, except I always thought it was for like a Les Paul. Maybe I'd better check.

The guitar impression on the case padding looks somewhat like an Outlaw.

Isn't this case similar?

I already found one. WITH ANOTHER OUTLAW IN IT! And one with the les Paul body style. Plus some extra modules and a bunch of original Electra lit. All for $250! I'm currently bidding on the one on ebay.
I haven't played NYC in 4 or 5 years. I took a break from the road. Had a kid and what not. I've been doing quite a bit of recording in the meantime. All real low budget/low-fi type of scree. Theres some examples on my myspace look up J. Arthur.
And theres a few pics of me on there hamming it up with some Electra's. I'm touring Australia in Aug/Sept. It's kind of a one off deal. I try and play a festival a couple of times a year.
Also check out The Budget Rock festival on myspace. There is a video on there of a band called the Necessary Evils. One of my old bands. Theres a skinny redheaded dude playing "slide" on an Outlaw. Using a crescent wrench! That's me! in 95 or 96.
I've been using electra's solid since around 92. Played in a bunch of weirdo garage/noise/punk bands.

I'd be a bit concerned about trusting the airlines with a vintage case like that. Several years ago I got off a plane just in time to watch the luggage handlers throw my ovation from the luggage bay of the plane down to the concrete below. I was fortunate that the case absorbed the impact... my ovation was ok, but the case was another story.

My original Electra cases all seem to be fairly brittle, which I guess isn't surprising given the material and age. If you want to keep your vintage case intact, I'd consider leaving it at home and finding one that fits well enough to offer the protection that your Outlaw deserves. Every casualty reduces our limited population by one.

I'd agree. A modern flight case will be much more durable and I'd feel better checking that. Although... seems to me I read that you're allowed to carry on one musical instrument. Guitars are surely most common, so they must be prepared for the size. I suspect on most aircraft they'd have you put it in the stand-up luggage compartment in front where they hang garment bags.
