I do not care for this one, I would take the original explorer style any day over this one. Just giving an old dog a new look I guess. As stated in the article, any explorer player is willing to keep the weight to have the sustain power that the body gives.

I'd laminate clear glass over the top and bottom, and fill the holes with water and that sparrkly colored stuff they put in toys for engineer's desks (we call 'em 'warp cores') Or substitute fairy sparkles, paint it pink, and call it the fairy princess!

Gibson constantly experiments with new designs, but they're always really derivative, the kind of ideas you expect from first-year design students (along with tilting text on a page to make it 'radical') Nowhere do you see the design power of a LP, Vee, or Explorer. Nowhere is there the bold futurism of the Moderne. Not even the homespun fender-like form of a Firebird. I don't see Gibson releasing any genuinely new designs any time soon, they make too much money selling AAA flametop furniture.

Take a look at the Vees, they made one in the eighties with chamfered corners, it was gawdawful, it should have been upholstered in naugahyde.

Didn't Hagstom make a guitar upholstered in naugahyde?

I saw the limited eds a while back on the gibson site and didnt care for them. Now the Dark fire and Joan Jett Melody Maker are pretty cool. New SGs just dont cut it for me. You can tell the're looking for someting new. Have you looked through the Gibson and Fender artist models lately? Better pack a sack lunch before you do. Theres a ton.

I like the melody maker; they seem to have a very cool sound to them and it surprises me that there's not more played! I've seen Eric Bazillion playing one and he was making that thing wail....

Yea, I was looking at a EP Les Paul Jr, Then saw a Melody Maker.(reminded me of the Stones) then I found the Joan Jett model, then it got way out of $$$$$ range so I got a Bullet. But I,m still keeping an eye out for the JJ model. Last price was around $750.00.

I've got a '78 Gibson RD Artist (Robert Moog electronics, active EQ) and it's pretty heavy. I end up playing my 2275 because it's lighter and more comfortable, to me anyway. I could see why hacking some weight out would be desireable, but I wouldn't want a guitar that looks like your kid took it to 9th grade wood shop and "modified" it!
