The veneer sounds the way to go. I think it will clean up any problems. You said flame burst? Have you by chance seen the limited Hot Rod Gibson LP? Chrome Blued pick up covers, red hued flame tips coming back like the old rods in the fifties. Think it was road and track mag I saw it in. Anyway, that look with three pick ups or two would be smooth looking. Not to wild.....

Can't say I have seen those but by flame maple I meant maple with a kind of grain pattern. A flame pattern could be cool but my painting skills are not up to it.

Yes, I can see the image of the grain. I'm still with you.

Well, if solid green is too hard, get a flamed top and get transparent greeen and paint the rest black for a staight line, clean cut look.
:D
I'm trying too hard, it's your guitar, do what you want.
I'm still surprised you're so up on the challenge.

Well its ready for me to glue the venner, re-do the binding and then finish it. I am waiting for a friend who has access to a vacuum press for the veneer. I have not pushed as 1) its a favor and 2) it has been to bleeping wet to do any finsih work here and probably will stay that way until the end of September. I will get some photos together this week.

Well it does not look nice yet as it has bits of wood filler all over it and a big block of unfinished maple where the trem route (i.e. the pit) was filled in.

Oh yea, that reminds me. I also now have a need for a block of maple. Any place to get a block and not the whole tree?

Try e-bay or the web under pen turning supplies. Small blocks can be had for a few $'s. If you have a cabinet maker or furniture maker near you you could probably get a small piece for free. Mine was an end from a flooring mill.

Thanks, I'll try that.
