Here we have another totally gutted MPC. This time it's the "Dicky Betts" dot neck vulcan that has been routed for a Kahler tremelo, 3rd pickup, and looks like they glued a fuzz box to the front at one time, or something..? Has no less than ELEVEN holes in the control area! Same guy has the brass control covers (could be used on a Ultima also...) and tuners in different auctions. Makes you want to laugh... or cry.

:o :x :bawl: This is really a sad site indeed. A beauty turned inside out and gutted and deformed into a beast. It will take some serious work and craftsmanship to bring this one back.

2 days to go and no one has taken the plunge on this one yet... Only $5 opening bid, but sellers $40 for shipping may be scaring people off. In a lot of ways this is much closer to being playable than the 'Hulk' that Workingman got a while back.

The Vulcans have the famous 'scooped out' heel. The vacant MPC bay could be used for Renegade Rays modern effect cavity, lord knows there are enough spaces on the front to accommodate the controls! I like his idea of having a LED display on the top of the guitar, so space aged~! You could put the display in that huge Kahler bridge route. I think the finish could be salvaged. Just noticed that this Vulcan has a '48' in the pickup route like my X935 blackburst, interesting. Apparently the two have the same basic construction, just different electronics.

I've said it before, you don't take on a project to save money, it's a job, but there's something personally satisfying about resurrecting one from the ashes, even if this isn't a Phoenix, Mike.

You know the more I look at this guitar, I think they put the Kahler in the wrong spot... you can see where the bridge should sit (where they've cut into the 'ingot' mounting plate, but the kahler is behind that, so the bridge would be like and inch and a half off... I bet it was horribly out of tune with the fretboard scale... what a wingnut! Anyone else agree? Would love to have been a fly on the wall when he figured that out.

I saw that someone had put a bid on this (for $5), but now the dufus, oh I mean seller, has relisted it:

http://cgi.ebay.com/1970s-Electra-MPC-G ... 740wt_1108

with a starting bid this time of $49, with shipping an additional $40. Not sure anyone will bite at that price, and I'm not sure why I'm so interested in this one... I guess I'd like to see it live again, and as I said above, I think it could be an interesting one to try to shoehorn a modern effect into. Anyone still hungry for a project?

I think he made all of $40 selling all the other parts... wish he would of just left the wiring harness in there... dufus.
