A good contact at one of the local music stores gave me a phone call Saturday afternoon about an Electra trade in that had just arrived there;

I made the drive over and a short time later I was looking at something exactly like this:



Pick guard and pick guard hardware are missing, along with the truss rod cover - other than that I would say that $300 was a good investment for it along with a HSC which is in great shape as well; the pickups are really hot, and can also give a fat sound for blues or jazz; a real player all the way up and down the neck; already cleaned it up and waxed it - along with a new set of strings.

Will post actual pics in the near future; now there are 3 Electras in the family.

Welcome to the Maple Pro club man. That's a great price too, did it have a smell? (wink wink) I know the Elvins seem to go for more money, but I kinda prefer the Blonde finish myself.

So it's got the trapeze tailpiece and the cutout headstock? JMM has a theory that the earlier trap versions had a different neck profile, we'll have to do some measurements sometime. I hope the heal seam is in better shape than mine. I believe the earlier ones had a more spectacular flame. I've never owned a 'real' 335, but JMM has, and he thinks they MORE than hold their own comparatively, Good Score!

From remembering your pic with the piece of paper sticking in it - the heel seam is the first thing I checked; it is in perfect shape; It also has the early open book head stock and trapeze tailpiece.

Thats a beaut man. Nice flame, a lot cleaner than ol' Ray that's for sure. It even has the 'Made in Japan' sticker still!



That's the cutout headstock, cleverly removing the offending Gibby shape. I'm not sure if I've ever taken notice of a serial number on one of these, well now we know that these headstocks were used in 1976. When these necks were used up Electra would switch to the Fan shaped headstock.

Flail some Pete Townshend chords through it and enjoy! Mike.
